When Chen Mu woke, sunlight already filled the sky outside. He stretched, feeling so comfortable he almost groaned. These past days, he had trained day and night, sleeping less than three hours a day. Last night had been the best sleep he had enjoyed in months.
Still, he quickly washed up and began his day's training.
First came the Body-Strengthening Exercise. The Devil Woman had praised it highly. Although it was relatively gentle and of little use in combat, it could steadily improve a person's physique. Chen Mu had never stopped practicing it. No one knew better than he did what his body had been like before. The excellent condition he was in now was almost entirely thanks to this exercise.
After finishing the Body-Strengthening Exercise, Chen Mu began training his perception. Since being captured by the Devil Woman, he had barely trained it at all. Partly, he had lacked the time; partly, he did not want to expose the Mysterious Card to her. But the Devil Woman seemed utterly uninterested in his belongings. Even the Tail-Shedding Shuttle Card had earned only a remark of "not bad," after which she had not spared it another glance.
Chen Mu had once ventured a question. The Devil Woman had left him with just one sentence: "One way to kill is enough."
Even as a chill ran through him, he could not help admiring Devil Woman. He had begun to understand where her strength lay. Everyone understood that biting off more than you could chew was unwise. But to face the temptation of something valuable and still hold steadfastly to one's own path—what extraordinary self-control that required.
That, too, was a kind of strength.
From then on, he had set himself a goal: I have to survive! No matter who my opponent is!
