Wang Dong stared at Dai Huabin, who lay on the bed opposite with one leg crossed over the other, and went utterly numb.
Dai Huabin? My roommate was actually Dai Huabin?!
His mind raced. Wasn't Dai Huabin in Class Two in the original story? How had he ended up in Class One, sharing a room with me?
Hiss... was this the butterfly effect? Had my transmigration into a male version of Wang Dong thrown the entire plot into chaos?
But that no longer mattered. What mattered was that this guy really was begging for a beating every time he opened his mouth.
"Boss of the room," "you're responsible for all the cleaning," "bring me breakfast tomorrow morning"-did he really think he was somebody?
Wang Dong's mouth twitched, but his expression remained as calm as drifting clouds in a gentle breeze. He walked leisurely over to the bed by the window, patted its frame, and turned toward Dai Huabin, his tone utterly casual:
"Sorry, I got to this bed first. Ever heard of first come, first served?"
Dai Huabin's expression immediately darkened. He sat up and stared at Wang Dong, barely containing the anger in his voice:
"What do you mean? I just told you, I'm taking this bed."
"And I told you, I got here first." Wang Dong shrugged, looking completely unbothered.
"If you really want to sleep here, sure. Go sleep out in the hallway. It's spacious, gets more sunlight, and you can even watch the stars at night."
Dai Huabin's face turned black as thunder. He had grown up throwing his weight around the White Tiger Duke's Mansion, and no one had ever dared speak to him like this.
He sprang to his feet and glared down at Wang Dong, his voice as cold as a blade. "Do you know who I am?"
"No, and I don't want to." Wang Dong yawned.
"My surname is Dai. The Dai of the White Tiger Duke's Mansion!"
Dai Huabin practically forced the words through clenched teeth, his tone brimming with superiority and menace.
To his mind, merely announcing that surname should have made this fellow, who knew neither the height of heaven nor the depth of earth, go weak at the knees.
Yet Wang Dong merely said, "Oh," his expression utterly unchanged. "Oh, and?"
Dai Huabin froze. In all his life, he had never encountered a reaction like this.
The name of the White Tiger Duke's Mansion rang loud throughout the entire Douluo Continent. Who wouldn't show it some respect? Yet this fellow with pink-and-blue hair had actually brushed him off with a casual "Oh, and?"
Dai Huabin flew into a rage, his clenched fists cracking. He had been arrogant and domineering since childhood, his conceit knowing no bounds. Not a single person his age dared defy him, even at Shrek Academy.
That was because he considered himself one of the greatest geniuses of his generation. His brother, Dai Yueheng, was reportedly among the very best in the inner court, and he, Dai Huabin, would only be stronger.
He was not yet twelve this year, but he was already a rank-thirty-one Soul Elder!
A rank-thirty-one Soul Elder! Even among all the new students at Shrek Academy, someone like him was as rare as phoenix feathers and qilin horns.
He sneered and stared at Wang Dong, his voice dripping with lofty contempt:
"Fine. Since you don't know a favor when you see one, we'll settle this by the rules. We'll fight, and the winner calls the shots. Today, I'll show you who's really the boss of this room."
As he spoke, his soul power erupted. With a low growl, he released his martial soul-the Evil-Eyed White Tiger!
The phantom of an enormous, snow-white tiger with mismatched eyes appeared behind him, its bright eyes radiating a fierce, oppressive presence.
Then three soul rings, two yellow and one purple, rose from beneath his feet and slowly circled him, their light shimmering.
Two yellow, one purple. A rank-thirty-one Soul Elder.
He truly was an exceptional genius. Among his peers, that talent was enough to look down upon all challengers, and even among Shrek Academy's entire incoming class, he stood in the top tier.
Dai Huabin looked at Wang Dong, a cold smile curling his lips. "Well? Scared? There's still time to surrender. Hand over the bed obediently and call me big brother, and I'll pretend this never happened."
Without any change in expression, Wang Dong simply released his own martial soul.
The Soft Bone Rabbit.
A pair of fluffy pink-and-white rabbit ears sprouted from his head and quivered slightly, looking impossibly cute. Combined with his handsome face, they gave him an air that seemed harmless to man and beast alike.
Dai Huabin paused, then burst out laughing. "A rabbit martial soul? Hahaha! You have a rabbit martial soul, and you dare challenge my White Tiger martial soul? Are you here to make me laugh?"
Halfway through his laughter, he abruptly stopped. He had seen the soul rings rising beneath Wang Dong's feet-one yellow and one purple.
Dai Huabin's pupils contracted. This kid's second soul ring was already a purple Thousand-Year Soul Ring? Everyone knew that the age limit for a second soul ring was a hundred years, yet his opponent's second ring had gone straight to a thousand.
Even he had not accomplished that. Still, there was an entire tier between a Soul Grandmaster and a Soul Elder. The gap in soul power was undeniable. No matter how good his soul ring configuration was, he could not turn the tables.
"Fine, you've got some ability." Dai Huabin stopped smiling, his gaze sharpening.
"But a Soul Grandmaster is still just a Soul Grandmaster. Today, I'll show you what a Soul Elder's strength really means!"
Before he had finished speaking, he sprang forward. His White Tiger martial soul possessed his body, and his claws gleamed coldly as he lunged straight at Wang Dong with a razor-sharp gust of wind.
He moved incredibly fast, unleashing all his soul power, intending to crush his opponent outright with his level advantage.
Yet Wang Dong merely sneered.
The instant Dai Huabin reached him, a pitch-black hammer suddenly appeared in Wang Dong's hand-the Clear Sky Hammer!
The hammer was heavy and ancient in design. Faint dark-gold patterns shimmered across its head, and it radiated an aura that made the heart tremble.
Then the first soul ring beneath Wang Dong's feet lit up.
First soul skill, Instantaneous Shift!
His figure vanished instantly. When he reappeared, he was already beside Dai Huabin. Raising the Clear Sky Hammer high, he brought it crashing down with the force of Mount Tai bearing down from above!
BOOM!!!
A deafening crash rang out, and the entire room seemed to shake. Before Dai Huabin could react, the hammer sent him flying. He slammed heavily into the wall, then slid to the floor with a muffled groan.
He lay facedown, his head buzzing, utterly stunned. What was going on? Didn't he have a rabbit martial soul? What the hell was that hammer? Were those twin martial souls?
No, that wasn't the point. The point was, why was he so strong?!
When that hammer struck, he felt as though an Ancient Ferocious Beast had rammed into him. Every bone in his body trembled. He had the White Tiger martial soul!
The physique granted by the White Tiger martial soul was already among the best of his age group, yet he hadn't even been able to block that hammer blow!
Even more absurdly, his opponent could use Instantaneous Shift?! Did a rabbit martial soul have a soul skill like Instantaneous Shift? He had never heard of such a thing!
With that ridiculous strength and the ability to teleport, how was he supposed to fight? He hadn't even touched the hem of his opponent's clothes before a single hammer blow sent him flying!
