Beep~
With a clear beep, the surgery finally came to an end after twelve full hours of frantic work.
"Doctor! How did the surgery go? My mother, is my mother..."
The doctor was already at his limit when he pushed open the operating room doors, only for Hal, who could no longer contain himself, to rush up and grab him. Jim wasn't quite as impulsive, but his face was just as full of agitation.
"I..."
"Doctor, tell us! How is my mother?"
After twelve hours of nonstop work, the utterly exhausted doctor didn't even get a chance to speak before Hal started shaking him. He nearly passed out on the spot.
Fortunately, his years as a doctor had taught him how to endure hardship. With the last of his strength, he pried Hal's hands off him.
"Your mother is... she's doing very well now, but she needs rest. Don't disturb her for the time being.
And please, someone hold me up. I'm going to..."
Before he could finish, the doctor finally reached his breaking point. His vision went black, and he collapsed with a thud.
"Doctor! What's wrong, doctor? Don't die on us! My mom hasn't even woken up yet..."
The hospital descended into a flurry of commotion, while Zuo Ci had slipped away long ago after putting a safeguard in place for the surgery. He went up to the rooftop to gaze at the stars and wait for someone.
When he first arrived, Zuo Ci had tested it: simple healing could ease Hal's mother's condition, but it would also invigorate the cancer cells and let them keep multiplying.
So he simply took a different approach. He locked Hal's mother's health bar, ensuring her HP couldn't drop to zero for a full day, then told the doctor to hurry up
