"Question! What has four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs at night?"
An unfamiliar voice suddenly rang out behind Riddler, instantly startling him into a cold sweat.
But he soon regained his composure. His expression even turned a little disdainful, and a mocking smile curled his lips.
He understood that Zuo Ci, the mysterious merchant, was speaking to him, and that this was a test.
But wasn't this test a little too childish? What a joke. He was the famous Riddler. How could he possibly not know such an overused riddle?
"A human, sir. A human."
Riddler confidently gave his answer, but Zuo Ci shook his head.
"Wrong. The answer isn't a human."
"Then what is it?"
Having his answer flatly rejected didn't upset Riddler. Instead, it filled him with confusion.
If some idiot failed to understand his riddles, he would only find it laughable. But the intelligence he had gathered indicated that the mysterious merchant was a clever man. If he rejected the answer, there had to be another possibility.
So what could the answer be?
For a moment, Nygma even set his caution aside. He turned to face this "friend" whose face he couldn't make out, eager to hear his answer.
"It's you, Edward Nygma. The answer to this riddle is you."
"Me?"
Riddler was puzzled. What did this have to do with him?
"It's morning now, so I'll beat you to your knees until you're crawling on all fours.
At noon, I'll beat you into a handstand, so you can only walk on your hands.
And at night, I'll break both your legs and make you crawl out on your hands with your cane clenched between your teeth!
So the answer is you, Riddler!"
Sweat instantly poured off him.
"Sir, we're both
