In the future, Uchiha Jie was holding Cell back as he gathered the Dragon Balls to wish for immortality. He then had Goten use the time machine to travel to the present, get ahead of him to Planet Namek, find the only Dragon Balls still left in the world, make the wish, and destroy Cell.
He could also deliver the medicine for Son Goku's heart disease and find out where his father, Uchiha Hikaru, had gone after disappearing.
