Background and History

Jiraiya grows up and trains with Uchiha Hikaru, Tsunade, and Orochimaru. As a child, he repeatedly challenges Orochimaru despite rarely winning, while his teasing often earns him a beating from Tsunade. Hikaru defeats him quickly in a training fight after awakening the Sharingan 44 52.

Jiraiya disappears during an Anbu mission and remains missing for nearly half a year. He returns from the Toad World calling himself the Toad Sage and later tells his teammates that he learned Sage Mode there 200 264 270.

After Konoha’s victory on the Land of Rain battlefield, Jiraiya stays behind to teach the war orphans Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan. He returns after roughly three years and argues with the Third Hokage when Konoha refuses to accept the children. Concerned about Nagato’s Rinnegan and Hikaru’s view of the three as potential threats, he warns his disciples not to approach Konoha carelessly 453 492 536 552.

Personality

Talkative, boastful, and prone to provoking his friends, Jiraiya often appears less disciplined than his teammates. He enjoys food, drink, and women, and resumes visiting Konoha’s pleasure district soon after returning from the Toad World 16 264 271.

His behavior contrasts with his loyalty to others. He stays in the Land of Rain to raise and teach three orphans, argues for their admission to Konoha, and spends much of a later battle rescuing fellow shinobi. Though reluctant to assume command, he proves capable when Hikaru puts him in charge 453 492 675 676.
