In Yin-Quelling Manor, a slaughterground of carnage where gods and ghosts danced in wild disorder, the boy swooped down from the sky and punched the black-tower-like Ghost King to his knees. When the ghost remained as motionless as a clay idol or wooden carving, almost everyone thought that the arrogant evil spirit had been utterly defeated.
Yet just as Qiong Rong and Xueyi swung their blades and staff, about to strike the stunned Ghost King, Xing Yan saw something in those bronze-bell eyes staring blankly at him. Their madness and confusion were gradually giving way to clarity and awareness. As the divine blades and Spirit Staff were about to reach him, a trace of sorrow seemed to flash through that newfound clarity. In the space of a lightning flash, Xing Yan made a decision he would later be profoundly grateful for: he abruptly reached out and blocked the two girls' attacks on the ghost.
