Of the legendary spirit trees in Kunlun's immortal realm, two were most renowned: the Langgan Tree and the Basho Tree. The Basho Tree had luxuriant branches and leaves and bore immortal longevity fruit. Though eating it did not necessarily grant eternal life, it nourished one's immortal essence and prolonged one's years. The Langgan Tree, meanwhile, had an indigo-green trunk and no leaves, bearing only pale jade-green blossoms. Its slender petals resembled slices of melon; in full bloom, they reached five inches in length, spreading like half-leaves, their lustrous, exquisite color like the finest emerald jade. The Langgan Tree flowered for a hundred years. Whenever its blossoms fell, the petals floated and danced on the breeze, resonating with the wind in leisurely notes like a zither's song. Upon touching the ground, they all became beautiful jade known as "Jade Blossoms." With one prized for its lovely fruit and the other for its splendid flowers, these two ranked foremost among Kunlun's countless magnificent trees. And among Western Kunlun's many wondrous places, none rivaled the Azure Luan Wonderland for the abundance of both.
The Azure Luan Wonderland lay southwest of the Garden of Ten Thousand Scenes on Mount Kunlun. It took its name from the Azure Luan, the immortal birds of Kunlun that most loved to linger there. A silver moon hung above it, and azure clouds wreathed its skies. Hundreds of Langgan Trees bloomed and shed their flowers, piling Jade Blossoms throughout the wonderland until jade all but served as soil. The beautiful jade, turning reflected vermilion to green, caught the bright moon's white radiance. Amid its interlacing treasured gleams, the vast Azure Luan Wonderland shone forever with clear, brilliant light. Every corner glowed,
