Su Nian frowned. The Endlands.
"Stop singing. You sound awful," Hao Ren snapped with a frown.
"You have no appreciation for art. I'm setting the mood for you. Back in Shanghai, they called me Shanghai's number one melancholy soul... What do you think?" Gong Qing looked at Wen Keyi.
"It takes a lot of courage to sing like that," Wen Keyi said tactfully.
Next, they chatted about materials. Each person needed different materials to advance their sequence at each stage.
And everyone's materials were different.
Ghostpattern Grass, Vine Mother Bloodroot, Spectral Mist Pearls, centennial fire ash, Road-Severing Copper Coins, flesh soil.
Su Nian had never heard of any of them, and even sequence users didn't know what some of them looked like.
They had to get close to sense them, at which point their bodies would feel a "craving."
Su Nian listened with great interest. Although he didn't need any of these things, seeing how miserable they had it gave him a strange sense of satisfaction.
So this is what it feels like to have cheats? They have to swallow all kinds of random crap. Their foundations definitely can't be as solid as mine, built by adding stat points.
Slow and steady.
After listening for a while, Su Nian decided to leave and get some sleep. Unlike the others, he had to drive.
"Su Nian, sir!" the buzz-cut man called respectfully.
Su Nian looked over the Raptor. It was fairly clean. Considering there was no water or cleaning solution, he'd done a decent job wiping it down.
Su Nian took a bottle of water and a bag of bread from the truck and handed them to the buzz-cut man.
"Su Nian, sir... I just wanted to thank you for saving me. I wasn't after your supplies."
"Take them."
The buzz-cut man hesitated, then accepted the bottled water and bread.
"Thank you, sir. If you have any dirty work that needs doing, just call me. My name's Li Sheng."
He nodded and bowed.
He wasn't educated, but he could read the room. Refusing again would make it look like he had ulterior motives.
Though he did, in fact, have ulterior motives. He wanted to use this opportunity to get into Su Nian's good graces.
After all, the other awakened all had people waiting on them. Only Su Nian didn't.
Sooner or later, he would need someone.
With the bottled water and bread in hand, Li Sheng turned and left.
Liu Yan sat in her car, combing her hair. She gave it a few extra strokes and wiped it with wet wipes to make it feel less greasy.
She glanced at Li Sheng and felt disgusted. Because of the substitute death ghost curse, she'd taken quite a few men's loads.
Only two of those men were still alive, and Li Sheng was one of them. She would have to find a way to kill them both sooner or later, or she would never get over her disgust.
"Yanyan, will this really work? That Su Nian doesn't look very approachable."
The middle-aged woman beside her, who still retained her charms, spoke up.
She was Liu Yan's mother, Zhang Yun.
After being transported here, Zhang Yun had used her looks to latch onto a man. She and her daughter had settled into a fairly stable life, with a standard of living above average for the convoy.
They had a car and supplies.
Yesterday, that man had gone looking for supplies and never come back. Now the car belonged to the mother and daughter.
"Don't worry, Mom. Just watch me. It's time we climbed a little higher."
Liu Yan smiled confidently, opened the door, and got out.
A red bodycon dress showed off every curve of her figure.
"Well, well, Liu Yan. Dressed that slutty today? How about coming over and sitting in my car?" The tattoo-sleeved man who had harassed Su Yue yesterday leered at her.
Liu Yan's former "stepdad" had been no pushover. The man had always wanted a mother-daughter threesome, so the tattooed man hadn't dared touch Liu Yan.
But that man had died in there before getting his threesome. Didn't that mean it was his turn to have a taste?
Among everyone in the convoy apart from the awakened, he was currently the strongest.
"I suggest you watch your mouth." Liu Yan gave him a cold glance.
"Heh..." The tattooed man's lips curled into a sinister smile. This woman needed to be put in her place.
He watched where Liu Yan was heading-Su Nian's Raptor.
His expression darkened slightly.
Anyone could see what Liu Yan was after. The bitch might actually pull it off.
Knock, knock.
Liu Yan knocked on the truck door.
Su Nian glanced up from the booklet he was leafing through.
"Hey, handsome. Remember me? We met yesterday."
"I remember."
Su Nian's tone was flat.
"That makes me so happy."
"Oh? How happy?"
Liu Yan said coyly, "Happy enough to do anything you ask... Want to give it a try, handsome?"
Su Nian opened the door and got out.
"The Substitute Death Specter's killing rule can be transferred by getting three people to say they're willing to die in your place. Is that right?"
Liu Yan froze, then forced herself to remain calm.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
Su Nian drew his knife.
Liu Yan screamed in terror and tried to run.
The Sin-Cleaving Butcher's Knife traced a hauntingly beautiful red streak through the air. Liu Yan clutched her neck in disbelief, then toppled stiffly to the ground, face-first.
[Obtained 100 Survival Points]
The system's announcement rang out.
The tattooed man: !!!
Honestly, he never would have imagined this outcome. Even if Liu Yan had offended Su Nian, this shouldn't have been how he dealt with her.
He had always preferred getting some use out of trash, making sure to lick up every last grain of rice in his bowl.
Couldn't he have played with her first... then killed her once he got bored?
Liu Yan's mother, Zhang Yun, stared with violently trembling pupils. Tears dripped down her face as she covered her mouth, her eyes bloodshot. If looks could kill, Su Nian would have died dozens of times already.
She didn't dare rush out. She knew that if she went out and made a scene, Su Nian would definitely kill her too.
After all, her daughter's fate was right there before her. She had been killed merely for saying a few words... What saint? He was nothing but a demon.
Li Sheng looked thoroughly satisfied... Serves her right. If I hadn't been lucky, I'd already be dead.
That woman's pussy is poison.
Liu Yan's scream had drawn quite a few people's attention.
Su Nian ignored them completely. He grabbed the back neckline of her bodycon dress, intending to throw her into the gray mist, but the dress didn't seem particularly well made.
It tore with a ripping sound. Su Nian simply kicked her instead, sending the corpse tumbling into the gray mist like a broken doll.
Anyone who tried to kill him wasn't getting away.
He wouldn't forgive someone just because he had escaped unharmed. Once someone like that tried it once, they would try it again. A transcendent sequence didn't make him invulnerable.
Su Nian returned to the truck.
The survivors were all chilled to the bone. Which was the real Su Nian-the one who had risked his life yesterday to draw away the horrors and save the survivors, or the one who had since slit two people's throats in succession?
One was a self-sacrificing saint... the other a cold, bloodthirsty madman.
A few words out of line, and he slit your throat.
Su Yue drank her porridge. Whatever everyone else said, she knew her husband had only managed to escape yesterday because Su Nian had drawn the horrors away.
Although her husband had still died in the end, that had nothing to do with Su Nian. At least she had seen her husband one last time and exchanged a few words with him.
That was a kindness she owed him. Anyone else could curse him, but she would never have the right.
"I'm sure that woman was the problem," Tang Zhou said, gnawing on roasted corn, her face covered in soot.
Ever since the apocalypse began, her face had been black with soot almost all the time.
"It doesn't matter who was at fault. This is the apocalypse. Power rests in the hands of the strong."
Tang Chen offered no judgment on the matter.
"Hey, how about I ask him how he awakened? Maybe there's a trick to it. I think he's pretty nice."
Tang Chen was a little speechless. He felt his sister was far too firmly on Su Nian's side. Whatever Su Nian did, she had a double-standard explanation ready.
It left him feeling rather uncomfortable.
"Forget it. I wouldn't feel comfortable letting you go. I'll go myself." Tang Chen reached for the corn.
"What are you doing?!" Tang Zhou snatched it up and hugged it to her chest, her eyes full of warning. (You already ate yours. This is mine.)
"Am I supposed to go empty-handed?" Tang Chen gave her a look that said, Are you an idiot?
"Oh, right. Fine."
Tang Zhou reluctantly handed over the corn.
This was the best-roasted bag of corn, and she'd planned to save it for later.
