Opposite stood an integrated kitchen counter with a small inset sink and a built-in induction cooktop, with a row of cabinets underneath.

At the back, a wide, fixed double bed stood against the wall, complete with a brand-new mattress and bedding. An enclosed bathroom sat to one side.

The corner held a separate, enclosed washroom compartment with tightly fitted sliding doors and pale gray, nonslip flooring.

Up the stairs was another level with a large bed, sunlight spilling through the skylight.

"Jealous. I'm seriously jealous. Now this is living." Hao Ren shook his head, looking utterly miserable.

"Come on, let's go. The longer I look, the worse I feel."

"Ahem. You really can't handle much, can you?" Gong Qing cleared his throat twice and followed him out.

Tang Zhou stayed outside without boarding. After all, she was just an ordinary person, in a different class from them. She would have plenty of chances to look around while driving, so there was no hurry.

She had never imagined she would get a chance to drive such a beast of a vehicle.

When they needed to flee, she would definitely stand up and stomp on the accelerator.

Su Nian got out and checked the storage compartment. His previous supplies were still neatly stacked inside.

He checked the water tank as well. It was full.

The system had given him not only a full tank of fuel, but water too. Tonight, he could take a shower and enjoy a good night's sleep.

Nearby, Li Sheng stared at the enormous vehicle, his heart sinking.

Just that morning, he had still been certain the job of the captain's driver was practically his.

All he needed to do was sincerely polish the vehicle and keep showing his dedication. Su Nian would surely notice.

He had never expected a beautiful woman to swoop in and take his place.

When Su Nian had killed Liu Yan with one slash, he had thought Su Nian wasn't interested in beautiful women. After all, setting aside how toxic she was, Liu Yan had indeed been pretty.

Jealous!

So damn jealous!

By evening, the last sliver of sunlight sank below the horizon.

The convoy traveled along the road.

In the cab, Tang Zhou slumped over the steering wheel in boredom, watching Big Black Bull pull the vehicle with all his might up ahead. Several tow straps were stretched taut.

"Poor thing. He has to earn every blade of grass he eats."

A bull through and through. He didn't even know how to pretend he was tired. If he did, he wouldn't have to pull the vehicle.

In the living quarters behind her, Su Nian finished showering and blow-dried his wet hair, then flung himself onto the soft bed. He pulled up the covers, savoring the soft, comfortable cocoon around him.

Bliss!

He had 6,190 survival points left. He had originally planned to look into the engine, but since Big Black Bull could pull the vehicle, he would let him keep doing it for now.

He spent a hundred survival points to add a wheeled cargo rack behind the towing frame.

When Big Black Bull got tired of pulling, he could lie down on the rack behind the vehicle and rest.

He had also asked Wen Keyi to produce plenty of fodder. Growing ordinary grass consumed far less mental energy than growing supernatural plants.

Once Big Black Bull ate his fodder and rested for a while, he could get back to pulling.

[Ding. Spend 400 survival points to upgrade Constitution (31 → 32)?]

"Upgrade!"

Su Nian spent 4,000 survival points to increase both his Constitution and his Spirit by five points each.

He kept the remaining 2,190 points in reserve.

[Constitution: 36] [Spirit: 36]

Once the enhancements were complete, Su Nian closed his eyes.

At the very rear of the convoy.

"Baby, could you carry me for a while? We ran all night yesterday, and my feet are rubbed raw. They hurt so much."

"You're so fat. How am I supposed to carry you?" The man's tone was cold. He didn't even look at the girl speaking.

Once, he had treasured the girl beside him, afraid that the slightest touch might hurt her.

But now, after experiencing the dangers of this world, all that love and romance meant nothing compared to his own life.

The fog beside the road parted, revealing a bus stop. Behind the trash can at the stop sat a black leather bag, with instant noodles and potato chips sticking out. The bag bulged as though it held plenty of supplies.

Most importantly, a gleaming black gun barrel protruded from it.

Temptation flickered across many faces, but they all restrained themselves in the end. The convoy had handed out porridge, so they weren't hungry now, making the temptation easy to resist.

"Sun Hao, look! A gun!" Li Cheng stared fixedly at the metal barrel, his breathing quickening.

"It's a lure from an anomaly. Let's just go." Sun Hao pushed up his glasses, fear in his eyes.

"Listen to me!" Li Cheng grabbed Sun Hao. "We've only been here two days. Out of the twenty of us, aside from the few people with Xiao Shengge, everyone on our side is dead except us two. At this rate, we're definitely going to die."

"The convoy has so many vehicles, but those Awakened would rather dismantle them than give them to us. Fine, whatever. But those vehicles clearly have empty seats, and they still make us walk. Do you know why?"

"They put us at the back to attract the anomalies. Haven't you noticed? We're bait to them."

Sun Hao nodded. "I have!" His voice was quiet, but heavy.

"Why not take a gamble? Get that gun, kill the Awakened, drink their blood, and eat their flesh. Maybe we'll awaken." Li Cheng's voice sounded like an evil spirit's.

"You're insane!" Sun Hao frowned.

He actually wanted to eat people. What was that if not insanity?

Sun Hao's expression grew even more vicious.

"Before the apocalypse, when a beast ate a person and people killed and ate that beast, wasn't that eating people too? During famines in ancient times, people traded children to eat. We just want to live. Meat is meat. There's no difference between human flesh and pork. The flesh and blood of a Sequence Transcendent must be different. Eating it will definitely awaken us."

"Then we'll grab that Xiao Shengge woman and have our fun with her together. Get a taste of a big star. There are several other good-looking ones in the convoy too. I've watched the Awakened fight. I know who's strong and who's weak. As long as we kill that Su Nian with one shot, we'll have an eighty percent chance of winning."

"A real man should have grand ambitions. How can we spend our lives trapped beneath others? Besides, they're the ones who denied us a way to survive first. We're just fighting back to protect ourselves."

Sun Hao was clearly tempted. He gritted his teeth. "Let's do it. You're right. Fortune favors the bold, while cowards starve."

"I'll go!" With that, Sun Hao started toward the bag.

"No, I'll do it. I'm not trying to use you by talking you into this. I genuinely want you to enjoy the good life with me." Li Cheng caught Sun Hao's arm.

Sun Hao would be useful somewhere more dangerous. It wasn't time to use him yet.

Whoever held the gun held the initiative. When the time came, he would have Sun Hao draw the attention of that balding guy. That guy seemed to have some kind of control ability.

He would have Sun Hao get close and stab him with a knife, then seize the chance to shoot Su Nian. The balding guy would be next.

Before he even had the gun, Li Cheng already had a "perfect strategy" in mind, as though he were already chewing on "meat" with Xiao Shengge beneath him.

Li Cheng tentatively extended one foot off the road and stepped onto the bus stop platform. It felt solid. It wouldn't suddenly collapse beneath him.

Sun Hao stood beside him and swallowed.

With firm footing beneath him, Li Cheng took a second step, leaving the road completely. He yanked the bag out from behind the trash can and ran back to the road, his face filled with delight.

What danger?!

Danger was all relative. The corners of Li Cheng's mouth lifted as he pulled out the gun: a short-barreled rifle fitted with a suppressor.

Before the apocalypse, he had run a shooting club, so he knew a fair amount about firearms.

"Hahaha!" Li Cheng couldn't help laughing aloud.

A wisp of gray-black haze slipped into his mouth. Beneath his clothes, a pitch-black handprint the size of a baby's appeared on his smooth back.
