The conference room was packed, but none of those present were from Stark Industries. They were all members of Congress.
Everyone sat in solemn silence, an oppressive atmosphere hanging over the entire room.
Two hours earlier, they had all received calls from Stark Industries, inviting them to a gathering.
Of course, that was merely the official explanation. In reality, everyone knew Stark Industries intended to confront them over what had happened in Congress.
If any one of them had been invited alone, they would never have come. But the callers had specifically mentioned that every member of Congress was invited.
After weighing their options repeatedly, they had all come, whether they wanted to or not.
After all, if they stayed away while Stark Industries won over the other members, who could withstand the company's retaliation afterward?
Although Stark Industries had been backed into a corner in Congress, none of them dared underestimate its influence.
Without all of them banding together, the notion that a handful of lawmakers could shake Stark Industries was nothing but a pipe dream.
So, faced with an invitation from Stark Industries, they had no choice but to come, willing or otherwise.
Once they arrived at Stark Industries, they were shown to the conference room. They had been sitting there ever since, without anyone attending to them, and their patience was gradually wearing thin.
Finally, John was the first to stand, his face full of irritation. "Fuck, what the hell is Stark Industries playing at? They gathered us all here, but nobody's shown up. Are they messing with us?"
At John's words, the other lawmakers turned to look at him, but no one responded. For a moment, the atmosphere grew awkward.
Fortunately, John was thick-skinned enough not to care. Instead, he shot
