Tony's sudden appearance had nearly made Nick wonder whether their plan to develop the Enhancement Serum had leaked.
But judging by Tony's behavior, he didn't seem to know about it. So what was he here for?
During the few short steps into the hospital room, countless thoughts raced through Nick's mind. Like Tony, he kept trying to figure out the purpose of the other man's visit.
Neither believed the other had come to visit the patients. For people like them, unless family or necessary interests were involved, visiting the sick simply wasn't something they did.
Everything they did had a purpose.
Nick soon gathered his thoughts and focused on the hospital room. But when he saw the four people lying in their beds, the corner of his mouth twitched.
Reed and the others were wrapped up like mummies. Aside from their mouths and eyes, every inch of their bodies was covered in bandages, making them look rather ridiculous.
Fortunately, Nick had excellent self-control. He showed no sign of anything amiss, and even a trace of concern appeared on his face.
"Are you all right?"
Reed's weak voice answered.
"Thank you for your concern. We're doing all right, but may I ask who you are?"
As he spoke, a hint of confusion appeared in Reed's eyes.
Only then did Nick seem to realize his mistake. He quickly tapped his forehead and introduced himself. "My name is Nick Fury. I work for the government. I heard there was an accident during your research, so I came to check on you."
Nick looked utterly sincere, and Reed and the others couldn't help feeling touched.
Although Tony had invested in their research, the government had funded its early stages, so they naturally had a certain fondness for it.
Now that something had happened to
