Natasha checked the Biological Detector in her hand.

"Their numbers haven't dropped at all! How is that possible?"

The bats were as large as eagles.

And they ate meat.

That meant they had to consume a substantial amount of energy.

According to food chain theory, they needed enormous amounts of energy to survive.

Yet S.H.I.E.L.D. had received no advance warning whatsoever of a bat swarm on this scale.

Rumble-

Deafening explosions rang out.

These were S.H.I.E.L.D.'s U123 missiles. After difficult negotiations with John Bull Country,

combined with the daytime evacuations, almost everyone aboveground in the cities had been evacuated.

So S.H.I.E.L.D. had decisively launched its missiles, intending to wipe out the bats.

Inside the air-raid shelter, Natasha watched the Life Detector in her hand expectantly.

After the rumbling stopped,

"Damn it, their numbers don't look any lower!" Barton complained.

It wasn't that their numbers hadn't fallen. Looking at casualties without considering the total population made any comparison meaningless.

Suppose they had killed five hundred thousand monsters. That sounded like an enormous number.

But what if there were ten million monsters?

Viewed that way, they hadn't actually killed all that many.

Once the rumbling stopped, Natasha reestablished communications with S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Agent Natasha, the missiles successfully eliminated nearly four hundred thousand bats."

"What percentage of the total was that?" Natasha kept a clear head. The raw number alone meant very little.

"Approximately one-eighth..." the communications officer said hesitantly.

What the fuck?!

Natasha knew exactly how S.H.I.E.L.D. operated. They claimed to have killed one-eighth of the total, but in reality, she would have been impressed if they had killed even one-tenth.

In fact, Natasha was still giving S.H.I.E.L.D. too much credit. All those roaring missiles had only killed roughly one-fifteenth of the bats.

Natasha feigned excitement. "That's wonderful. A few more bombardments, and
