The clear sky suddenly erupted into wind and rain.
Dark clouds and lightning had hovered over the uninhabited Mohaja Desert for several days, bringing fierce winds and torrential rain with them.
A hurricane of such magnitude sweeping through the already barren desert would naturally whip up a terrifying sandstorm.
With so few trees in the desert to begin with, the sandstorm wreaked even greater havoc on the land.
"Captain, are you sure something abnormal is really happening here?" Barton asked Steve as he gnawed on some hard bread.
Steve nodded. "My instincts tell me these winds and rains are anything but simple. This definitely isn't just a natural phenomenon."
After several missions, Steve seemed to have developed other superpowers.
He had a strange intuition: after observing a place for a while, he could sense whether supernatural energy was at work.
And it was highly accurate.
"Barton, have the nearby towns been evacuated?" Captain America asked.
"Captain." Barton spread his hands helplessly. "Nothing has actually happened here yet. It's just a thunderstorm. Your instincts may be accurate, but they won't convince the police or the military, much less the voting public."
Steve fell silent. That was true.
After sensing something unusual, Steve had hoped S.H.I.E.L.D. could evacuate every town in the surrounding desert, since there was no telling where the lightning would ultimately strike.
Or rather, where disaster would strike.
But there was no way S.H.I.E.L.D. had that kind of authority.
Even the State Police would struggle to evacuate people across such a vast area in just a few days.
Most importantly, nothing abnormal had actually happened yet.
However...
The fierce winds and torrential rain had now continued for an entire day without letting up.
