Only now did Ash have the chance to observe the interior of the fortress.
Though it was called a fortress, it was more like a Small World, a little secret realm. He could not hear the Forgotten Ones outside at all; the inside of the fortress was a world unto itself.
But the fortress's architectural style was extremely chaotic. There was Cloud City in the sky, the Lightning Mountains in the distance, the Lightning Strike Wood Forest, and the Corpse Bone Forest. The cities alone showed Ash three completely different styles: Steam Machinery, Molten Iron Castle, and Dark Spire.
At first glance, it looked as if buildings from many different places had all been thrown together into one stew.
Ash also saw Fire Tree Silver Flower and Eternal Night, and immediately understood that this fortress was a hodgepodge made by combining all the arcanist encampments in Illusion Hell. After all, once the war began, this was the only safe place. Whether the hell demigods were willing or not, they could only move everything they owned here.
But among all these strange buildings, the two enormous guillotines in the center of the fortress were still the most eye-catching. The one on the left was extremely huge, seemingly used to execute colossal creatures; the one on the right was a little smaller, but it had thirty-three blades and could execute thirty-three people at once.
More importantly, these two guillotines were constantly operating.
Giant beasts with sacks over their heads, ignorant and bewildered mortals, were executed ceaselessly by the two guillotines as though on an assembly line. Beneath the guillotines was a bottomless Blood Pool. Even from far away, Ash could smell an overwhelmingly pungent stench of blood... How long had these two guillotines been running? Why were these creatures being executed?
