Felix had both arms wrapped around a huge pile of documents. She struggled to twist open the general manager's office door, then shouldered it open. Perhaps because she was in a hurry to get to the restroom, she took two quick steps, accidentally twisted an ankle in her high heels, and went pitching straight forward.
"Ah."
The documents scattered messily across the floor, but Felix realized she had not fallen onto the carpet. She turned her head and saw Ash with an arm around her waist. Clearly, in that split second, the general manager who never liked exercise had somehow stopped the accident in time.
Just as Felix was considering how to tactfully say she was willing to thank Ash for his help with money, overtime, or any other price that "would not deepen the relationship between herself and Ash," Ash pulled her upright and steadied her. She looked up and saw Ash holding his phone to his ear with his right hand, gesturing for her to hurry up and get out so she would not interfere with his call. He did not even need her to pick up the documents.
"It's fine," Ash said, crouching down to pick up the documents. "Just a little accident... Hey, hey, don't slander me. Do I look like the type to have an office romance? Spending ten-something hours facing each other at work isn't enough, so we keep facing each other for another ten-something hours after work? Do I look that stupid?"
Naturally, those words were not meant for Felix, because Ash was speaking Chinese.
Felix stepped out of the office and pulled the door mostly shut, but left a crack open. She pricked up her ears and pressed close to the
