Sword Flower University, Combat Hall.
As Sonia pointed her sword at Leonie, every onlooker was left with only one thought:
What was she doing?
Felix, Silia, Ingrid, and the others felt the same way:
What was Sonia doing?
Even Sonia herself fell into deep thought:
What am I doing?
After staring blankly for a moment, Leonie covered her mouth and clutched her stomach. Laughter nearly escaped through her teeth and lips; it was obvious she was holding it in with great difficulty.
After quite a while, she finally took a deep breath. Her face still bore traces of wild laughter as she asked as seriously as she could:
"Sonia, are you serious? You want to challenge me, Leonie Victor?"
No! It's not serious! The Watcher controlled me just now!
Watcher, you shameless Little Speaker, controlling a girl's body!
Sonia was practically roaring curses in her heart, but she could not say that aloud. She also believed the Watcher would not appear again—at least not until she finished this practical combat training.
Everyone's reaction was only natural, because Sonia had challenged Leonie.
At Sword Flower University, Leonie could be said to be the most famous student. Her talent, her awards, and her many scandals were all widely discussed.
On her first day of enrollment, she had beaten every freshman in the Swordsmanship Department into submission;
In her second year, she advanced to One-Winged Silver and became the apprentice of Sword Flower University's other Sword Saint, Nidala the Rhythm Sword Saint;
In her third year, she joined an Abyss exploration team, formed a squad with geniuses from Truth University, and made numerous gains in the Abyss, encountering one lucky opportunity after another.
Even Truth University wanted to poach her. Countless people considered Leonie a Sword Saint Seed, a future Holy Domain powerhouse!
More importantly, Leonie had been participating in high-intensity Abyss exploration for the past half year. Everyone knew she wanted to break through her Swordsmanship Realm in battle and advance to Two-Winged!
That meant Leonie had already fully spread her Silver Wing. She was a One-Winged Arcanist at full strength!
By comparison, Sonia and Felix had only entered the Void Realm a few days ago. Forget Silver Wings—they had not even condensed a single silver feather. The gap in Spell Power between them was greater than that between a child and an adult.
Although Spell Power was merely an energy resource and actual combat still depended on the spellcaster's skill, no one believed Sonia had even the slightest chance of winning. Sonia herself thought so too.
Leonie definitely possessed more Spell Spirits than she did, and Leonie had surely mastered Swordsmanship Miracles. On top of that, Leonie had extensive combat experience in the Abyss.
The more Sonia compared them, the more despair she felt. Why was the Watcher trying to ruin her like this!?
She might as well have fought Luo Lian!
Even if she lost to Luo Lian, people would only think he was bullying someone younger. But losing to Leonie was different—people would think Sonia was arrogant, overconfident, and incapable of appreciating kindness!
Not to mention the outrageously arrogant things Sonia had just said.
If she lost too badly, she would never be able to face Professor Tello Zan again.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. It had been the same last time—the Watcher had made her challenge Felix for no reason, which was why she had caused today's trouble. She had not expected the Watcher to be Back At It, making her provoke Leonie!
However, the Watcher had not been wrong.
Sonia truly did not feel upset right now.
Because all she could think about was strangling the Watcher to death in the Void Realm tonight.
But the words had already left her mouth. Sonia could not possibly take them back, so she could only grit her teeth and nod. "That's right."
"Good. Admirable courage. As your senior in the Swordsmanship Department, I have no reason to refuse your challenge."
"However," Leonie said with a smile, "as a Disciplinary Committee member, I cannot allow such a lopsided battle to take place on campus, so..."
She walked over to the side, casually took a Training Wooden Sword from the weapon rack, and said, "Although I said I would try to hold back, anything can happen in battle. So let's set fair victory conditions directly."
"In this practical combat training, if my sword touches your body even once, I lose."
"As long as your sword leaves your hand, I win."
"Of course, if you can make my sword leave my hand, then you naturally win."
Laughter broke out around them. No one believed Sonia could make Leonie drop her sword; Leonie's words sounded more like an impossible demand.
Leonie looked at Luo Lian and Felix. "These rules apply to you two as well. Luo Lian, either guarantee that you can defeat Felix without hurting him, or simply give up... As a third-year student, surely you do not lack even this much confidence?"
"You can make the rules even harsher," Luo Lian said coldly. "I don't mind."
Felix said calmly, "With such easy victory conditions, I have no reason to refuse."
When Leonie looked at her, Sonia suddenly understood what was going on.
Leonie had not appeared by coincidence. She and Luo Lian had definitely planned this beforehand; Silia's matter had merely been a convenient opportunity.
Leonie was the Rhythm Sword Saint's apprentice, while she and Felix were the Hidden Hand Sword Saint's apprentices... Was this a clash between Sword Flower University's two Sword Saints? Or did Leonie want to test their mettle?
But no matter what, Sonia had no reason to back down. Besides, after Leonie proposed such "generous" rules, Sonia could not help but feel a spark of fighting spirit... along with the humiliation of being looked down upon!
Sonia took a deep breath and gripped the Wooden Sword in her hand. "I have no objections either, Senior Leonie."
"Then I declare the battle... begin!"
Blood Moon Country, Broken Lake Prison.
Ash looked at the empty Dining Hall, eating braised lala meat as he wondered whether today was some kind of holiday.
Why had he not seen any other prisoners all morning?
The Deathmatch Club, Central Hall, Reading Room, Gymnasium, Audio-Visual Room... There was no one anywhere. Only a few Prison Guards were idly playing with Light Screens, as though everyone had agreed to stay in their Dormitories all day without going out.
But they still had to eat even if they did not go out, right? It was impossible for everyone to spend Contribution Points to have the Dining Hall deliver food to their rooms, was it?
The unease in his heart grew heavier and heavier. Ash felt like a farmer who had seen animals and plants flee, dragging even their nests and roots with them. He clearly knew a great disaster was about to descend, yet he could do nothing but wait for death.
Halfway through his meal, Ash's body suddenly stiffened.
The Light Screen popped up automatically, and an icy red message reflected in Ash's pupils:
"Dear Mr. Ash Hiss, prisoner number 4001623. Broken Lake Prison hereby formally notifies you that you have now entered supervision status. Please maintain a pleasant state of mind and cooperate with the Supervisor's instructions."
He abruptly stood up and walked to the entrance of the Dining Hall. He stood ramrod straight, without the slightest sway or tremor, like a statue.
After a while, seven prisoners gradually arrived at the entrance of the Dining Hall. Their movements were identically stiff, like puppets controlled by strings, and they stood beside Ash in a row.
There was a fist-sized Void Gap between each person, and they formed a straight line like a military training formation.
The elf swordsman Valkas Ul and Lang Na the Gourmet's young boyfriend were both among them!
Everyone's expressions were extremely complicated: fear, relief, despair, relaxation. Yet no matter how Ash looked at them, he could only read one message:
Save me!
Another minute later, a tall, burly prison guard arrived at the entrance of the Dining Hall. He smiled faintly at the prisoners, revealing savage, pale fangs.
"Hello, everyone. I am your Supervisor for today, Nagu Macmillan. Pleased to meet you. First, please introduce yourselves by name, from left to right."
"Archibald Harvey."
"Valkas Ul."
"Ronald Wade."
"Rudo Enfield."
When it was Ash's turn, he discovered that he could not control his mouth at all. It opened mechanically as he said, "Ash Hiss."
After all eight had stated their names, Warden Nagu nodded in satisfaction. "Today's schedule is to finish lunch first, then I'll take you to watch a film this afternoon, and to the Sea View Platform to enjoy the sea breeze... Hmm, due to a recent proposal from a Human Rights organization, we will give you one hour to contact the outside world, allowing you to speak with family and friends."
"There is not much to say about the arrangements after dinner. If any of you have suggestions or questions, you may raise them now."
Ash immediately raised his hand. Warden Nagu looked at him. "Go ahead."
The restriction on his mouth was lifted. Ash swallowed and asked the most important question, "I would like to ask, after dinner... what arrangements are there?"
Although he had already guessed the answer, he still held onto a sliver of hope.
Warden Nagu smiled. He had seen plenty of death row inmates deceiving themselves like this, but he did not dislike personally shattering their hopes.
Bestowing despair was precisely a Supervisor's duty, and also a Supervisor's pleasure.
"Dear Ash, the arrangement after dinner is, of course, to take you to the live broadcast venue for Blood Moon Judgment."
