Vortexes, also known as Shortcuts of Fate, Advancement Steps, and the Cursed One's Last Luck, were extremely rare Natural Wonders in the Sea of Knowledge.
Natural Wonders were completely different from other existences in the Void Realm. Knowledge Creatures had habitats, and Inheritance Islands and Encounter Islands could remain unchanged for ten thousand years unless a spellcaster stepped onto them. Natural Wonders, however, appeared at random times and in random places, then vanished after lasting for a certain period of time. They were practically the rumors in Void Realm hearsay that sounded most like complete fabrications.
If even a spellcaster with the worst luck would eventually encounter Knowledge Creatures, Inheritance Islands, and Encounter Islands in their lifetime, then even a spellcaster with the best luck might never encounter a single Vortex in their whole life. It could be called the ultimate luck detector.
And the reason those who encountered Vortexes were so envied, resented, and hated was because of a Vortex's powerful might—Void Realm transfer!
A spellcaster who stepped into a Vortex would emerge from another Vortex somewhere else in the Sea of Knowledge.
Although that did sound quite miraculous, how could a mere spatial transfer stir up the spellcasters' yearning?
That was because a Vortex did not simply transfer someone. Instead, it made the spellcaster pass through a mysterious passage inside the Vortex, crossing countless regions of the Sea of Knowledge in just a few short seconds. At the same time, the basic law of the Sea of Knowledge—"the farther you sail, the more Spell Power you absorb"—did not stop working!
If two Vortexes were ten thousand miles apart, then as long as a spellcaster passed through that Vortex passage, it would be equivalent to sailing ten thousand miles across the Sea of Knowledge, directly absorbing enough Spell Power
