In the darkness dozens of meters away, rustling sounds kept rising, now and then mixed with crisp crunches that reminded Di Luge of her favorite Fried Two.
She had grown up in the Dust Robbery Fire Parish of the Robbery Fire Church. Dust Robbery Fire controlled an entire stretch of Grey Fox Farm, and five percent of the Senro Wasteland's grain came from Dust Robbery Fire farms. With food so abundant, people naturally put effort into cuisine. Among Di Luge's top three food recommendations, one was fried dough called "fried dough stick," and another was steamed rice slurry called "rice noodle roll." If fried dough stick was wrapped inside rice noodle roll, it became her absolute favorite—Fried Two.
Rice noodle roll soaked up the savory fragrance of soy sauce, yet its wrapper was smooth and tender as milk, while fried dough stick was crisp, sweet, and refreshing. If you chewed it slowly, the aroma of flour drawn out by frying would fill your mouth. When these two were combined into Fried Two, one bite first brought the sensation of the silky wrapper kissing your lips, then the salty aroma of soy sauce awakened your entire mouth, and immediately after, the crisp fried dough stick burst between your teeth, its floury sweetness seeping into every gap.
Every day after waking, Di Luge liked to eat a portion of Fried Two. Her dazed body, fresh from the Void Realm, seemed to be pulled back into the mortal wasteland by that delicious carbohydrate. Even after she later tasted all kinds of more expensive and rarer delicacies, what she still craved most was a plate of Fried Two.
But the sounds coming from the darkness were not someone eating Fried Two.
They were Green Beasts gnawing bones and sucking marrow.
