If he had a Miracle, he could fix this fastest sports car.
But he could no longer pay for a Miracle.
If he had wings, he could catch up to the speeding train.
But his Void Wings had already been broken.
He could not catch up anymore.
Amilo's grating dead-man's voice echoed once more in Ash's mind. Sorcerers like them could not change anything, whether they won or lost. As if hearing the accelerator's wail, the engine showed Ash the highest standard of Stars Industry, and the speed slowly climbed again, hovering around 400 kilometers per hour.
But it was meaningless. Without the drag of those last few carriages, the Canaan's speed had long since surpassed 350 kilometers per hour. The Oracle Comet could only keep from being left behind; it could not close the distance between them.
Rain streamed in wild darkness, fierce wind howled, and now hail seemed to be mixed into the Rain Curtain, pelting Ash's face one after another, splitting his scalp and drawing blood, battering him until he was covered in wounds. The rain seemed to carry away the heat from his body, and a bone-deep chill slowly congealed his boiling blood, exhausting him so badly that even breathing felt like suffocation.
He still had a sword, still had strength, still had a life he could squander, still had an Oracle Comet. He still remembered the line Rose had mentioned: "The oracle envelops a dying ally in a false promise, granting them precious time to destroy the enemy, and can even reverse a certain-death fate..." This was supposed to be a vehicle that let people catch up to Fate and save themselves from regret!
But a sports car without a Miracle could not possibly run faster than light, much less catch up to a Fate
