To avoid any mishaps, a camera operator went undercover, concealing his camera as he followed them.
There weren't many people in the supermarket at that hour. The two put on masks and went inside.
The supermarket was bright and warm, its shelves filled with a dazzling array of goods.
Song Yunxing pushed the cart as he and Shen Yanci headed to the fresh food section.
The surrounding shelves were piled high with vegetables and fruit when Song Yunxing suddenly remembered a very important question.
He asked tentatively, "Shen Yanci, can you cook?"
Shen Yanci glanced sideways at him and raised an eyebrow. "You're only asking that now?"
Shen Yanci came from a well-off family and had spent years as an award-winning actor. Surely he couldn't cook. As for Song Yunxing, though he'd lived abroad for years, he hadn't picked up any cooking skills either.
If he had that kind of time, he'd rather take a nap. His packed schedule wouldn't even let him sleep in!
Song Yunxing pressed his lips together, pulled out his phone, and searched for "easiest home-cooked dishes."
"What do you want to eat?" The man surveyed their surroundings and pushed the cart toward the seasonings aisle.
"Can you actually cook?" Song Yunxing folded his arms and eyed him skeptically. "Don't try to bluff your way through this. Bad food would be the least of your problems. The internet will publicly roast you afterward."
"What, do you see me as some pampered prince who's never lifted a finger?" Shen Yanci casually selected a few bottles of spices and put them in the cart.
Song Yunxing glanced at the spices in the cart, fell silent for a moment, then lowered his head and resumed the paused video.
Song Yunxing muttered to himself, "Forget it. I'd better watch a tutorial first, just in case..."
[Hahaha, could you two have a little more faith in each other?]
[That's what I figured. They're both top stars. When would they have time to learn to cook?]
[Just look at Shen Yanci. He looks like someone who only eats food made by five-star chefs, not someone who cooks.]
[They're doomed. Neither of them can cook. Last place is already reserved for this pair.]
"I've taken cooking classes. I can handle home-style dishes." The man pushed the cart toward the seafood section.
"Huh?" Song Yunxing looked baffled. "When did you take cooking classes? You used to eat takeout every single day."
The man paused and coughed awkwardly twice. "People improve. Is it really that strange that I can cook?"
Song Yunxing watched the man's retreating back, feeling that something was odd, though he couldn't put his finger on it.
With his family background, why would he need cooking classes? Couldn't he just hire a chef?
Was it for work? Was he playing a chef in his next movie?
"How about some fresh shrimp?" Shen Yanci pointed at the lively shrimp in the tank.
The clear tank was full of swimming shrimp. Judging by their vigorously moving legs, their flesh had to be nice and firm.
Song Yunxing's eyes brightened, and he nodded eagerly.
"Two and a half jin, please." Shen Yanci spoke to a supermarket employee, took the bag, and continued pushing the cart forward.
"Are you sure you can manage?" Song Yunxing lowered his voice. "If you're really not confident, I'll grab you something ready-made. At least it won't look so bad if you mess up."
Smiling, the man drew out his words. "Song Yunxing, you'd better not eat any later."
Seeing how certain the man looked, and how he refused to accept his kindness, Song Yunxing snorted.
"I was only trying to help! You're the one who'll be embarrassed, not me! Fine, I won't eat it! I'll make my own salad!"
The young man turned and strode toward the produce section.
He couldn't cook hot dishes, but salads were his specialty! He'd eaten so many different salads for losing weight and gaining fat that he was sick of them!
The two went their separate ways, leaving the lone camera operator unsure whom to follow. The camera wavered indecisively before ultimately staying right where it was.
[Hahaha, they argue, and the camera operator suffers.]
[A little spat every two days and a big fight every three. They can't go a single day without bickering.]
Seeing the two disagree, the haters lurking in the livestream finally had a chance to make their presence felt.
[I told you their relationship was fake. Look how they fight over the smallest thing!]
[Song Yunxing doesn't even know Shen Yanci can cook. How could they possibly be a couple?]
[I really don't know why you ship them. They obviously can't stand each other. If our award-winning Shen weren't so good-tempered, Song Yunxing wouldn't have survived this long!]
Fans of both stars and the couple's shippers couldn't sit still any longer.
[What? Shen Yanci is good-tempered? You must be a fake fan!]
[What did our Xingxing ever do to you?]
[Little disagreements are perfectly normal for couples. People even argue with their parents and friends!]
[Open your eyes and look at the ingredients in the cart! Shen Yanci is planning to make typhoon shelter shrimp!]
[Whoa! You've spotted the missing clue, Watson!]
[Xingxing loves shrimp, especially typhoon shelter shrimp!]
[I just realized Shen Yanci is exactly Song Yunxing's ideal type. Tall, knows how to cook... aside from his gender, he's a perfect match.]
[Hehehe, that Shen Yanci is a sly one. The more you think about it, the scarier it gets~ So scary~]
The toxic solo fans and haters immediately argued back, but their comments were swallowed up by the constantly refreshing barrage.
The livestream chat kept arguing, while the two in the supermarket remained oblivious, each picking out ingredients.
Before long, Song Yunxing returned with an armful of leafy greens and fruit, along with frozen chicken breast, and put them in the cart.
He looked utterly confident and determined, having made up his mind to fight Shen Yanci to the bitter end.
Shen Yanci didn't stop him, letting him put everything in.
They walked one behind the other, and as they passed the snack aisle, Song Yunxing's attention was completely captured.
He'd been strictly supervised since childhood and forbidden from eating this kind of junk food. After he grew up, his manager strictly limited his snack intake to keep him in shape. He'd already used up this week's snack allowance on Tuesday!
I want them! But I can't have them!
If his manager found out, he'd have to listen to her lecture for another hour.
Song Yunxing swallowed and struggled to tear his gaze away from the bags of chips.
Song Yunxing silently repeated to himself, I don't want them. I don't want them!
Suddenly, a bag of his dream chips loomed before his eyes.
"Here." Shen Yanci handed him a bag of barbecue-flavored chips.
Surprised and delighted, Song Yunxing instinctively took them. "Why are you getting these?"
The chips in his arms were his favorite flavor, something he'd only ever mentioned at a fan meet.
The man turned sideways, his voice level and matter-of-fact. "For cooking."
"...Oh." Song Yunxing quietly put the chips in the cart and lowered his head, like a dispirited little rabbit with drooping ears.
"I won't need that many for cooking. You can have the rest." Shen Yanci glanced at him, the corners of his lips lifting almost imperceptibly.
Song Yunxing's eyes flickered, and his dejection vanished.
"Really! Ahem... well, to keep food from going to waste, I suppose I'll reluctantly do you this favor~"
