September 30, Jubilife Breeding Center.
The busy month of September was drawing to a close.
Diancie had already been added to the latest Pokédex early that month.
Anyone who visited a professor to update their Pokédex, or any new Trainer who received a regional Pokédex, could look up Diancie's information.
For example, Li Wei's Pokédex Rotom had remotely received a data package from Professor Rowan and recorded Diancie's data.
It included height, weight, Ability, typing, and Diancie's relationship to Carbink.
The Pokédex explicitly identified Diancie as a mutation of Carbink.
Through subsequent research and data comparisons, Professor Oak, Professor Rowan, and Professor Sycamore had become almost certain of that relationship.
They were missing just one thing: the process by which Carbink mutated into Diancie.
With that process documented, the matter would be settled beyond doubt.
But that sort of thing could only be stumbled upon, not sought out.
Blue did plan to investigate the Kalos Region, but he still had his responsibilities at the Viridian Gym.
Further exploration of this relationship would also require guidance from Carbink and Diancie.
That meant approaching Li Wei, but Li Wei had no time to spare for now, either.
Li Wei and Blue agreed that, when they had time, they would take Diancie and Carbink to investigate places in the Kalos Region with a strong Fairy-type aura.
In plain English, they would look for Xerneas.
Carbink's mutation might take time.
Professor Oak, Professor Rowan, and Professor Sycamore all believed it was a long-term process.
It was like quantitative changes leading to a qualitative change.
But if they found Xerneas...
Every problem would fall neatly into place.
As for why Blue wanted Li Wei's help...
For one thing, Blue had noticed that Li Wei seemed quite likely to encounter rare Pokémon like these.
Whether it
