Li Wei immediately shared the news with Red, Green, and the others, as they had requested.
Li Wei: "Matori did come to recruit me."
Red: "Just as we thought! Looks like the old man really thinks highly of you, too."
Lorelei: "So it really was..."
Ash: "Team Rocket are a bunch of people who steal other people's Pokémon. You didn't agree, did you?"
From Ash's perspective, that was certainly true.
That was also how Ash and Brock had always described the Team Rocket Trio to others.
Green explained to Ash, "Team Rocket has already changed direction, but some of its members still haven't shaken their bad habits. Those are probably the people you ran into."
Considering Team Rocket's market value and enormous influence, the Pokémon League actually needed it.
That was one of the reasons Team Rocket hadn't collapsed during the several years Giovanni had spent in retirement.
After Ash, Brock also chimed in.
"Thinking about it carefully, those three aren't completely beyond saving. When it comes to how they treat their own Pokémon, they're every bit as good as Ash."
Even Ash couldn't argue with that.
The Victreebel that loved chomping on James's head, Cacnea... he really was adored by Pokémon.
Lorelei: "Now that I think about it, Giovanni must have tried recruiting plenty of people back then, right? Especially Red and Green."
Green nodded. "That's right. He did come to recruit us personally back then."
An invitation from Giovanni had indirectly become proof of someone's strength. He was practically Team Rocket's veteran quality inspector.
The duo was currently traveling through the Hoenn Region.
Brock explained to Ash, "Actually, Team Rocket tried recruiting me back then, too. The offer was pretty tempting."
