This was no small matter. Whether it was a zombie or a person, either could be dangerous.
He Zhou thought for a moment. "Neither of us has the right build to go out and investigate. I'll go find our captain."
Yuan Hou, the Macaque Special Person, grabbed him.
"You're going to find the Third Team captain at this hour? Aren't you afraid Gu Cheng will strangle you? Don't you know how much he treasures his wife?"
After spending these past few days together, everyone knew how much Gu Cheng treasured Ye Ruan. It was as if he held him in the palm of his hand, then tucked that hand into his mouth for safekeeping.
Double protection.
He Zhou looked troubled. "Then what do we do?"
"I'll go out."
Ye Ruan appeared soundlessly behind them.
He Zhou flinched. "You scared me! Why are you out here? Where's Gu Cheng?"
"You two were too loud."
Ye Ruan was still wearing Gu Cheng's coat.
"I put noise-blocking earplugs in for him. He's asleep."
Ye Ruan took off the coat and handed it to He Zhou, then loosened up his wrists and ankles.
He Zhou was still uneasy.
"Captain, how about I wake Yu Jingjing and have her go with you? I don't feel good about you going alone."
"No need. I'll be fine on my own."
Ye Ruan pointed at a stretch of wall some distance from the gate.
"There's a peach tree outside that wall. I'll land right on it when I jump over. Don't worry, I'll watch for a while before jumping down."
Before He Zhou could fuss any further, Ye Ruan sprang lightly into the air, turned back into a snow-white lop-eared rabbit in the blink of an eye, and leaped out of the courtyard.
