Shen Ru woke to find himself lying in bed in a pitch-black room.
The scent of roses drifted through the air.
Shen Ru did not get up right away. He lay quietly in bed for a while, then sat up to get out once he had confirmed that his surroundings were safe.
"Clink, clink, clink."
The moment he moved, he realized something was wrong.
A long, slender chain had been fastened around his ankle, and it rang clearly whenever his body moved.
The room was too dark for Shen Ru to see where the chain led.
He could only feel his way to the wall and turn on the light.
"Click."
The room's full appearance was laid bare before his eyes.
The room was a jarring blend of futuristic machinery and antique decorations. Neon light spilled through the broad floor-to-ceiling windows and scattered across the floor, and the chain followed the light out of the room.
Shen Ru's first impression upon seeing the whole room was that everything in it was blunt.
At least, there did not seem to be anything sharp.
Even the square table had rounded edges.
A diary lay on the table.
Shen Ru raised an eyebrow at the name on it. It was his diary.
There was not much written inside, so he could read it all with a few quick glances.
"This world has changed completely. Humanity has no way out but death."
"I was sent to an auction, where these robots put me up for sale as cheap labor."
