The white doves perched on the Monastery roof scattered at the tolling of the bells. A raven slipped out through a window and preened its feathers, its tiny black eyes watching the strangely flustered humans below with curiosity.

Ying Lin wore a complicated expression as she pressed hard against her pounding heart. Standing in a corner, her face unnaturally pale yet flushed, she watched the classroom door open with frighteningly bright eyes.
