The female passenger who had screamed rose from her seat. After looking around and seeing no sign of her husband, she began pacing through the carriage in a frantic search.
But there was only so much room in a single carriage. She walked from one end to the other and still seemed unable to find her husband-so she began asking for help.
"Hello, have you seen my husband?"
She asked a passenger sitting in his seat.
The passenger shook his head, then turned away indifferently. Seeing this, the woman could only move on to the next person.
"Hello, have you seen my husband?"
She went from person to person, asking in vain, but every passenger answered with either a shake of the head or an "I don't know." Seeing the state she was in, they all shrank back, desperate to avoid her, afraid she would ask them next-because nothing good could come of it.
After questioning every passenger in the carriage except the players, the woman grew increasingly distraught and turned her gaze toward the players huddled timidly at the back.
She grabbed one of them by the shoulders at random and shook him as she asked, "What about you? Have you seen my husband?!"
The player swallowed. He dared neither refuse to answer nor lie and say he had, so he could only shake his head in terror, just as the other passengers had.
Disappointment instantly washed over the woman's face. The player whose shoulders she held shuddered, terrified that his answer would suddenly send her into a rage-
Instead, she released him and turned to question the next player.
She seemed determined not to stop until she had questioned everyone in the carriage. The same question repeated over and over until only one person remained.
