Li Xian kept track of Xie Zhi out of the corner of his eye. After standing up, she slowly left her seat and walked toward another row-then sat down in front of He Tongtong and Zhai Shu.
Less than five minutes later, a voice drifted toward the two of them:
"You saw me, didn't you?"
Xie Zhi turned her head and watched them for a while before speaking softly.
At those words, panic instantly overwhelmed He Tongtong. Her hand began trembling uncontrollably around her pen, dragging a long, shaky line across her notebook.
A drifting murmur reached her ears:
"...Why?"
"Why does everyone ignore me?"
As soon as those words were spoken, He Tongtong's body went rigid, and she stopped moving entirely.
Beside her, Zhai Shu's palms were already slick with cold sweat. She almost lost her grip on the pen she was writing with.
Zhai Shu pretended to take notes, making a show of writing and drawing in her textbook. Every so often, she jotted down a few words from the teacher's lecture in the margins, never once looking up.
He Tongtong's pen, however, had stopped moving.
A little while later, a rustling sound came from in front of Zhai Shu. She wondered whether the Green-Dress Woman had turned back around, but still didn't dare glance ahead.
Zhai Shu kept this up until class ended. Only when the bell rang and she sensed the Green-Dressed Girl rise and leave the classroom did she let out a long breath. She turned her stiff neck slightly and looked toward He Tongtong-
The instant she saw He Tongtong's expression, Zhai Shu fell silent.
Her eyes were wide open and unblinking, her hand still poised around her pen. Even the bell hadn't drawn the slightest response from He Tongtong. Her body remained rigid
