Li Xian glanced at their varying expressions and slipped the Key into his pocket.
Jiang Yu blinked twice, quickly composed his slightly startled expression, and asked:
"What happened in there?"
Wary of the dolls inside the room, Jiang Yu asked this from the doorway, raising his voice a little to be heard.
Li Xian couldn't be bothered with these people who couldn't even see their act through. He turned to the doll sitting quietly in his hand, knowing he had "passed."
His initial hesitation had come from the answer being too obvious, but after thinking it through, Li Xian quickly realized the true nature of this "quiz."
It was a "scam."
TV programs like this hadn't been uncommon when he was a child. Their content was essentially the same as what he had just seen: the host would ask a question with an extremely obvious answer and invite children watching to call in, while several calls giving wrong answers would also come through during the show.
But if someone actually made that call, they would be told the line was busy-and their phone credit would be drained while they waited.
In other words, neither the supposed "gift" nor the "surprise" would ever reach the viewers in the first place.
Since the quiz on the television was a scam, the corresponding choices outside it wouldn't lead to any good outcome either.
There was another piece of evidence: the host on the television had only emphasized that a correct answer would earn a "surprise," without describing what that surprise actually was. With wording that vague, if he really chose doll number two, the "surprise" he received might well be something like "having an arm bitten off."
Under those circumstances, his only option was to step outside the choices they had laid out
