Li Xian clicked his tongue inwardly.
Of all the times she could have shown up, it had to be now.
"...This was an accident."
With his previous experience to draw on, Li Xian answered calmly.
The Head Nurse offered no comment on Li Xian's explanation. She stepped into the room and began inspecting the traces left behind.
A flattened drinking cup, fragments of a plastic stool on the floor, a quilt that had fallen off the bed, a clothes rack out of place, two patients behaving abnormally, and... two other patients who weren't supposed to be here.
Seeing the Head Nurse's expression darken further, Li Xian continued explaining:
"We heard a loud noise from here while we were in the corridor, so we came in to see what was going on. The room was already like this when we opened the door."
The Head Nurse clearly didn't believe Li Xian's story. She walked straight over to the window, glanced at the trapped 308A, then dragged the other patient out of the corner.
"What did they do?"
The patient with persecutory delusions caught his breath at the sight of the Head Nurse and began trembling even harder.
"I... he... the cup..."
He stammered for ages without managing a single coherent sentence. The Head Nurse's brow furrowed deeper and deeper until she finally gave up questioning him and released her grip.
As though granted a pardon, he clutched his head and huddled back into the corner.
The Head Nurse turned her gaze toward the unconscious 308A.
She extended her slender arms, gripped the iron bars on either side of the clothes rack with both hands, and bent them apart-
The thumb-thick iron bars bent effortlessly. The Head Nurse gracefully extracted the trapped section of the clothes rack, straightened the bars again, then
