Background / History
Qin Yun comes from Blue Star and arrived on the Dou Qi Continent when he was seven or eight years old. Thunder Venerable Lei Ming took him in and raised him within the Wind and Lightning Pavilion. Over roughly ten years, Lei Ming supplied cultivation resources and treated him well, eventually naming him Young Pavilion Master one year before the opening chapter 1.
Having read the original story, Qin Yun knows that the Pavilion’s future hostility toward Xiao Yan could lead to its destruction. His gratitude toward Lei Ming makes preserving the faction a personal responsibility. He therefore seeks to befriend Xiao Yan before that conflict develops, while pursuing his own ambition to reach Dou Di 1.
His longer-term concern is Hun Tiandi’s anticipated ascension and blood sacrifice of the Central Plains. Qin Yun regards Xiao Yan as a potential safeguard, but recognizes that relying entirely on another person would leave his own survival uncertain 15 44.
Appearance
Qin Yun is a handsome young man with black hair in his ordinary state. Activating Threefold Reversal changes both his coloring and, in its fully displayed second-stage form, his hair length 1 38.
- Ordinary state: Black hair, restored after deactivating Threefold Reversal 1.
- Reversal state: White hair and skin resembling white jade 1.
- Full second-stage transformation: His short hair grows into waist-length white hair, while his body becomes as white as fine mutton-fat jade 38.
- Dou Wang manifestation: Reveals Dou Qi wings during his entrance into the Xiao Clan hall 10.
Personality
Qin Yun is pragmatic, calculating, and blunt. He treats foreknowledge as leverage: identifying future allies, exposing concealed problems, and choosing favors that may strengthen the Pavilion. He openly describes helping Xiao Yan as an investment and eventually admits to Feng Qing’er that members of her clan occupy roles in his larger scheme 13 16 22.
His loyalty coexists with considerable moral compromise. He pressures Fei Tian into attacking Han Feng, erases the captured soul’s non-alchemical memories, and steals medicinal herbs while arranging for Zi Yan to take the blame. He commonly presents profitable or opportunistic decisions as benefits to his companions or faction 4 5 30.
Despite his confidence, he is neither fearless nor wholly indifferent to others. His confrontation with Xiao Xun’er leaves him privately frightened; he worries about damaging worthy opponents’ future cultivation; and he accepts responsibility when Lei Yan is injured. After Fei Tian warns him about exposing his unusual powers, Qin Yun sincerely acknowledges that success has made him careless 17 38 39 45.
He also values effort over presumed destiny. Possessing a system does not persuade him that success is automatic, and the painful refinement of the Fallen Heart Flame reinforces his determination to develop strength of his own 1 44.
Abilities & Skills
Sign-In System
Qin Yun’s system awards techniques from The Outcast when he checks in at significant locations 1.
- His first sign-in at the Wind and Lightning Pavilion grants Threefold Reversal 1.
- The Black-Corner Region grants Lt. General’s Command over Spirits at minor mastery 4.
- Wutan City grants Heaven Communicating Talisman Art at major mastery and a technique advancement card 10.
- He later receives Feng Hou Qimen while observing Jia Nan Academy’s sparring matches 34.
- Granted knowledge does not always equal fluent execution: Feng Hou Qimen initially remains difficult to perform smoothly 34.
Threefold Reversal
His principal cultivation technique enhances his body through transformation into qi. It supplies the durability and regeneration underlying much of his fighting style 1 10.
- First layer: Transforms his skin into qi, greatly strengthens his physique, and heals minor abrasions within a few breaths 1.
- Second stage: Allows rapid recovery from severe wounds, including severed limbs, provided his head and the three elixirs are not directly shattered 10.
- He withstands Lei Yan’s strongest attack and heals the resulting wounds in approximately three seconds 39.
- After the Fallen Heart Flame tears off his right arm, he reattaches it by converting the matching surfaces into qi and fusing them 43.
- Continuous regeneration enables him to endure the internal burning involved in Heavenly Flame refinement 44.
- Its defense is not absolute: the weakened Fallen Heart Flame still pierces it and severs his arm 43.
Lt. General’s Command over Spirits
This art captures soul bodies and lets Qin Yun command them or temporarily borrow their abilities 4 6.
- Controls the weakened Han Feng’s movements and forcibly erases memories unrelated to alchemy 5.
- Borrows memories, innate attributes, soul power, alchemical experience, and access to Han Feng’s Heavenly Flame 4 6.
- Can hold multiple soul bodies, including those that possessed Heavenly Flames during life 45.
- Provides access to the Sea Heart Flame without requiring Qin Yun to refine it into his own body 5.
- His proposed fusion of soul-controlled Heavenly Flames remains experimental; Fei Tian interrupts the first attempt before the flames fully merge 44.
Borrowed Alchemy
Qin Yun bypasses his lack of conventional alchemical attributes by drawing on Han Feng’s captured soul 4 6.
- Uses approximately seventy percent of Han Feng’s alchemical skill 6.
- Produces a decent-quality fifth-grade Dragon Strength Pill in roughly two hours on his first attempt 6.
- At One-Star Dou Wang, his Dou Qi reserves do not support sixth-grade refinement 6.
- Acquires Yao Lao’s alchemy notes to benefit the Wind and Lightning Pavilion, rather than because he needs them for his borrowed technique 15.
Heaven Communicating Talisman Art
A versatile support art that draws talismans directly in the air and includes a wish-granting function 10.
- Offense: Five Thunder Talismans and Fireball Talismans 10.
- Enhancement: Diamond Talismans and Speed Talismans improve defense and movement 10.
- Escape: Earth-Traveling Talismans and Flowing Light Talismans 10.
- Can produce dozens of talismans almost instantly, with sustained use limited by his Dou Qi supply 10.
- Its prayer power makes Feng Qing’er pause for one second, creating an opening for a direct palm strike 20.
- Creates a lightning barrier from hundreds of Five Thunder Talismans during his match with Lei Yan 39.
- Wishes cause backlash; Threefold Reversal lets him recover quickly from minor consequences 10 20.
Feng Hou Qimen
Qin Yun receives this complex art with beginner-level proficiency. Its vast body of knowledge initially leaves a gap between his understanding and execution 34.
- Requires approximately a one-second activation delay when first acquired 34.
- Uses Chaotic Golden Watch to immobilize Feng Qing’er and shift her into an independent space, allowing an ambush to pass harmlessly through her 42.
- A target shifted by Chaotic Golden Watch cannot move or attack 42.
- Immobilizing Feng Qing’er is relatively easy because of their difference in cultivation level 42.
Lightning Movement and Illusory Body
Qin Yun practices the Wind and Lightning Pavilion’s Three Thousand Lightning Movement and Three Thousand Lightning Illusory Body 26 37.
- Three Thousand Lightning Movement is an Earth Tier movement technique used for rapid travel and combat evasion 26 37.
- Three Thousand Lightning Illusory Body creates a spiritual clone with eighty percent of his strength 37.
- The clone can use movement techniques, talismans, and a partial version of Threefold Reversal 37.
- Without a flesh-and-blood body, the clone cannot enter the complete reversal state and regenerates more slowly 37.
- Excessive enhancement causes the clone to crack apart and disappear 38.
- Qin Yun uses movement and cloning together to intercept the Fallen Heart Flame’s fireballs 42.
Heavenly Flames
Qin Yun directly refines one Heavenly Flame and accesses another through Han Feng’s soul 5 44.
- Sea Heart Flame: The fifteenth-ranked Heavenly Flame, retained by Han Feng’s captured soul and available through spirit-commanding 5 6.
- Fallen Heart Flame: Personally refined with the Heavenly Fire Venerable’s assistance; raises Qin Yun to Nine-Star Dou Wang and improves his future cultivation prospects 44.
- The Fallen Heart Flame specifically targets souls, giving him a countermeasure against soul-based attacks 44.
- His attempt to fuse the two flames is stopped by Fei Tian’s spatial power 44.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Storage Ring — Carries medicinal ingredients, pills, and technique scrolls; also accommodates the Heavenly Fire Venerable’s soul 15 32 46.
- Han Feng’s collection — Looted medicinal ingredients and pills, including more than a dozen sixth-grade pills 6.
- Yin-Yang Profound Dragon Pill — A seventh-grade pill taken from Han Feng’s residence and given to Feng Qing’er in exchange for an introduction to Fenghuang 6 7.
- Yao Lao’s alchemy notes — Obtained in exchange for soul-nourishing medicinal ingredients 15.
- Letter to Feng Xian — Entrusted to him by Yao Lao, with spiritual power included as proof of the sender’s awakening; delivery is not shown in the provided chapters 16.
- Infant Fallen Heart Flame — Received from the Heavenly Fire Venerable as compensation for rescue; Qin Yun considers it bargaining material for Jia Nan Academy’s stronger flame 32.
- Five-Wheel Li Fire Technique scroll — Another rescue reward. Controls five flames of different attributes and, at peak mastery, can rival a low-level Heaven Tier Dou Technique; Qin Yun’s mastery is not established 32.
- Tracking jade pendant — Given by Fei Tian before they separate, allowing him to sense Qin Yun’s location within a limited distance 46.
- Woeful Poison Body treatment materials — Collected over several years. By Chapter 45, only Bodhi Transformation Milk and a rank-seven Heavenly Scorpion Poison Dragon Beast’s magic core remain missing 45.
Relationships
- Lei Ming / Thunder Venerable — Guardian and teacher. His care motivates Qin Yun to protect the Pavilion; he approves the journey and assigns Fei Tian as a concealed escort 1 2.
- Feng Qing’er — Rival, nominal mount, and increasingly devoted companion. Their agreement follows her repeated defeats, but Qin Yun initially never makes her perform actual mount duties. Their bond develops into trust and attraction without a confirmed romantic commitment 1 2 23 43 45.
- Fei Tian — Bodyguard, senior mentor, and reluctant accomplice. Qin Yun calls him “Uncle Fei,” frequently pressures him into dangerous work, and later accepts his warnings about secrecy 4 6 45 46.
- Xiao Yan — Beneficiary and close friend who calls him “Big Brother Qin.” Qin Yun resolves his cultivation problem and supports his training; Xiao Yan promises future assistance 13 18 24 25.
- Yao Chen / Yao Lao — Cooperative senior ally. Qin Yun facilitates his discipleship with Xiao Yan, presents Han Feng’s captured soul, and trades herbs for alchemical knowledge 14 15.
- Xiao Xun’er — Initially suspicious of his motives. A negotiated truce and his continued support for Xiao Yan gradually ease their relationship 16 17 24.
- Han Feng — Captured soul reduced to a controllable resource after the erasure of his non-alchemical memories. Supplies borrowed alchemy and the Sea Heart Flame 5 6.
- Zi Yan — Recruited ally. Qin Yun reveals her heritage, offers political support, and supplies pills to secure her cooperation 27 28 29.
- Heavenly Fire Venerable — Rescued senior whose soul Qin Yun nourishes. Helps refine the Fallen Heart Flame and is later sent with Fei Tian to assist with Xiao Yi Xian 32 44 46.
- Lei Yan — Respected sparring opponent. Qin Yun recognizes his talent but misjudges his determination, resulting in a serious yet recoverable injury 36 38 39.
- Xiao Ding and Xiao Li — Grateful allies through Xiao Yan. They welcome Qin Yun and guide his search for Qing Lin 48.
