Qian Renxue did not answer. Instead, she surveyed her surroundings. The old man had actually let so many memorials pile up unattended. It seemed Pufferfish's poison was taking effect.
Seeing her ignore him, Xue Ye flew into a towering rage. He clenched his fist and slammed it against the desk, demanding to know whether she intended to rebel.
"Rebel?"
Qian Renxue looked as though she had heard something hilarious. The disdain in her voice practically spilled out of the screen.
"Xue Ye, you're old and useless. You're no longer the wise ruler of grand vision and brilliant strategy you once were. Now you're muddleheaded and deaf to reason, indecisive and weak. You occupy the imperial throne, yet lack an emperor's backbone.
"You inherited a powerful, prosperous empire strong enough to stand against the Star Luo Empire. But what has it become now?
"Decades have drifted by. The treasury is empty, the people's livelihoods lie in ruins, and the army is short of soldiers and generals. Had Spirit Hall not kept the enemy in check, Heaven Dou's foundations, built over tens of thousands of years, would have crumbled in your hands!
"Throughout your reign, you have achieved nothing in governing the nation, only erred in throwing it into disorder; you have shown no virtue in caring for the people, only committed the crime of bringing calamity upon the country!"
Pfft!
Overcome by fury, Xue Ye felt blood surge through his body and abruptly spat out a mouthful of it.
"You bastard! What right do you have to lecture me? The great Heaven Dou's one capital and ten provinces rest upon my shoulders! You have no business speaking of 'all the people under heaven'!"
?
Ye Yan slowly produced a question mark. It was not that something was wrong with him-something was wrong with Xue Ye. Why was the Yan faction everywhere?
Wait, the Yan faction! The keyword had been triggered. Familiar background music rang in Ye Yan's ears, and he switched into freestyle combat mode!
A Zero opening move sent Xue Ye flying, followed by a lethal high-leg axe kick-the same kind Wang Qiu'er used.
Xue Ye was driven into the floor like a torn sack. After so many years of pampered living, how could he withstand such a vicious assault? Not to mention, he was only a Soul Ancestor.
He typed GG and exited the stage of history on the spot. (ˆつ⩊⊂ˆ)੭
"That's it? It's over?"
Fei Yun came over and looked at the stone-cold corpse in surprise. She had thought they would have to deliver a whole lot of reasoning before killing him. She had not expected such a slapdash finish.
Ye Yan squeezed her hair bun. It felt quite nice, all warm and cozy.
"What else did you want, silly little Yun? Dealing with Xue Ye was the easiest part. Next, we need to eliminate every unstable element before the various factions react."
"All right~_~"
Fei Yun's expression dimmed. Looking at the little sweetheart before him, Ye Yan felt a pang of sympathy and gathered her into his arms, comforting her softly.
But where he could not see, Fei Yun secretly revealed a satisfied smile. The young master really was so easy to fool~
"Grandpa Dugu, sorry for the trouble, but I'll need you and Snake Lance to subdue Ge Long and temporarily take command of the city garrison. Pufferfish, go eliminate the guest retainers and consecrators in the palace who are loyal to Xue Ye.
"Ling Yuan, Ice Empress, sorry for the trouble, but please guard the western and northern city gates. For the next three days, allow entry but no exit, just as before. Kill anyone who causes trouble without exception. Sword and Bone are already guarding the eastern and southern gates, so there's no need to worry about those.
"Xue'er, have your people summon the ministers to the palace immediately. Tell them there's urgent business to discuss. Snow Empress, sorry for the trouble, but please hold the palace. I'll take Yanyan and the others to find a deer."
"Yes." / "No problem."
Everyone knew the matter was urgent and set off at once.
Once they left the palace, an angry Dugu Yan reached out and tugged Ye Yan's ear, asking whether he still had any room for her in his heart.
"Yanyan, you're wronging me! I've been deeply in love with you all this time~"
But Dugu Yan was not buying any of it. You've brought over enough women to form a combat squad, and you still dare talk to me about love!
"Yanzi, why don't you let it go? Xu Xiaoyan might have her reasons."
The kindhearted Ye Lingling could not bear to watch and reached out to intervene. Ye Yan nodded repeatedly too. Lingling knows me best.
Huh?
Dugu Yan nearly laughed in anger at her foolish best friend's betrayal. That wasn't how you acted when we were cursing that scumbag earlier. Now that you've pulled this, doesn't it make me the unreasonable one?
Ye Lingling felt a little embarrassed, but she did not want things to be this way either. The competition was simply too fierce, and she had nothing particularly distinctive about herself. She could only play the understanding older sister.
Lingling casually pulled Xu Xiaoyan into her arms, letting her rest against her soft breasts while gently stroking her earlobe.
She wore silk gloves, and the sensation was distinctive-tingly and ticklish. Ye Yan liked it very much. He narrowed his eyes and let out a purring sound.
"You adulterous pair!"
To Dugu Yan, their affectionate display looked like a deliberate provocation. Her eyes reddened and grew slightly swollen. She stamped her foot and made to storm off.
But as she walked, she realized she seemed to be floating. Looking down, she saw a gray-white object wrapped around her waist and reached out to squeeze it.
Hmm?
It's so soft. It feels wonderful~
Following the fox tail with her eyes, Dugu Yan realized it had grown from behind Ye Yan. There was also a pair of fox ears on his head, which her treacherous best friend was holding and playing with.
"Xu Xiaoyan, how did you turn into a fox spirit?"
Do you even know how to talk?
You're the fox spirit! Your whole family is made up of fox spirits!
"Yanyan, this is an external soul bone, not some fox spirit."
Ye Yan bared his teeth at her. Honestly, he looked rather adorable.
You dare bare your teeth at me?
Dugu Yan pinched his chin, slipped her thumb into his mouth, and rubbed the tip of his tongue.
"I was wondering how you managed to hook all those older women. So you had something like this. What a horny little thing."
"Mmph... I'm... I'm not a horny little thing, you meanie."
After teaching the faithless scoundrel a lesson, Dugu Yan felt much of her gloom dissipate. She let him take her hand and lead her toward the market, while he held Lingling's hand on his right.
After selecting a ten-year-old Blue-Horned Deer at the Seven Treasure Chamber of Commerce, they headed back the way they had come.
On the way, Dugu Yan curiously asked why they had made a special trip to buy the creature. Were they going to cook it?
Ye Yan smiled and said he would keep her guessing for now. She would find out soon enough.
Dugu Yan pouted. Stingy brat. You're keeping secrets even from me.
By the time they returned to the palace, the civil and military officials had all gathered, arguing furiously as they stared at "Xue Qinghe" seated on the throne.
An elderly minister with graying temples trembled with anger and berated her in a fierce voice:
"Xue Qinghe, you are utterly lawless! Don't think being the crown prince guarantees you the realm! His Majesty is still alive, yet you dare ascend the Dragon Throne without permission. This is tantamount to treason!"
"Indeed."
Another minister immediately followed, glaring at Xue Qinghe on the dais.
"Our families have drawn the sovereign's stipends for generations, and we must act loyally toward him. His Majesty still lives, yet you dare overstep your station like this. If we let you off lightly, the order of the court will surely descend into chaos!"
A few sharper ministers noticed that Prince Xue Xing and General Ge Long, usually the earliest to arrive, were nowhere to be seen. At that thought, they quietly edged toward the corners, lest they get splattered with blood in a moment.
Sure enough, upon returning, Ye Yan saw these unruly wretches daring to curse his wife. Dozens of blue silver vines burst from the ground and wrapped around everyone who had just been shouting.
As the vines tightened, agonized screams rang out alongside the cracking of bones. Before long, ketchup had been squeezed all over the floor, and the thick stench of blood filled the entire hall.
