Satoru Gojo jumped down from a rooftop with Riko in tow, landing on a quiet street.
A car drove up from the other end of the street and stopped by the curb. The doors opened, and Suguru Geto and Wana got out.
Wana ran over and looked Riko up and down. Only after confirming she was unhurt did she breathe a sigh of relief. "Are you two all right?"
"We're fine." Satoru Gojo leaned against the wall, pulled a piece of candy from his pocket, unwrapped it, and popped it into his mouth. "Just a few idiots who didn't know any better," he said indistinctly. "I took care of them."
Suguru Geto walked up to Riko. "We heard about Miss Kuroi."
Riko looked up at him. Her lips moved as though she wanted to say something, but she swallowed it back.
He continued in a low voice. "I'm sorry. It was my mistake. If I'd thought things through more carefully, this wouldn't have happened."
Standing beside him, Wana quickly waved her hands at his words. "No, it's my fault. If I hadn't listened to Kuroi and left first, then..."
Satoru Gojo watched the two of them take turns blaming themselves. "Hey, hey, hey." His voice wasn't loud, but his tone left no room for doubt. "There's no point talking about that now. What we need to figure out is how to rescue Kuroi."
Blaming themselves wouldn't solve anything. Coming up with a plan would.
Seeing their expressions change, Satoru Gojo knew they'd come around and continued. "They've already told us to go to Okinawa for a hostage exchange. Kuroi's life should be safe for now. In other words-we still have the initiative."
