Background / History

Arashi was born with the Six Eyes and named by the clan head, who regarded him as the Gojo Clan’s hope. He enjoyed a happy childhood: his father practiced swordsmanship with him, his mother watched over him affectionately, and the elders treated him kindly. He often spent hours watching the sky beneath an old tree in the clan courtyard 19.

At fifteen, his father died and his mother became gravely ill, forcing him to assume leadership. Dealings with sorcerers, clans, curse users, and the Shogunate taught him to read others’ intentions and conceal his feelings behind a carefully measured smile 19.

He later married and had a child. A curse user’s attack left his wife comatose, and he visited her daily to tell her about their lives. The apparent recovery and family reunion shown at the end of his life are revealed to be a dying vision, rather than a confirmed recovery. Recognizing his death, he takes a final look at his family and the courtyard tree before fading away 19.

Appearance

Arashi has white hair falling over his shoulders and exceptionally clear azure eyes 2.

  • Eyes: Repeatedly compared to pieces of the bright sky; they remain conspicuous even in darkness 2 12.
  • Clothing: Wears white robes and a loosely draped, crested haori 2 13.
  • After awakening: Returns with bloodstained hair and torn robes exposing skin still healing beneath them 17.

Personality

Arashi’s relaxed manner is partly a political performance. At formal gatherings, he smiles and exchanges cordial remarks even while trading veiled insults with rivals. Privately, he worries about his stalled development, the decline of the great families, and the vulnerability of a clan whose strength depends heavily on him 2 4 19.

His loyalty to the Gojo Clan outweighs his willingness to endure personal humiliation. He tells Tengen that he could swallow his own anger, but cannot allow the Zenin Clan to walk over his family. Although he recognizes the danger of Kenjaku and Kashimo, he believes conflict with Zenin Sawa is inevitable 8.

In battle, his pride in Limitless turns to anger when Kashimo bypasses it. Awakening Reverse Cursed Technique replaces that desperation with exhilaration: he openly credits Kashimo for forcing his breakthrough. Even after catastrophic injuries, he remains capable of calculated counters and a composed final attack 14 17 18.

Abilities & Skills

Six Eyes

Arashi’s inherited eyes allow him to closely examine cursed energy and track an opponent’s movements 13 14.

  • Reads changes in Kashimo’s cursed energy immediately before an attack 13.
  • Sees through dust and searches Kashimo’s body for signs of an active cursed technique 14.
  • Limit: Perceiving an attack does not guarantee that his body or defensive technique can respond quickly enough 13 18.

Limitless

Limitless prevents ordinary strikes from reaching Arashi, stopping Kashimo’s staff and kick approximately an inch from his body 13.

  • Can weaken an incoming attack’s force until it dissipates before contact 13.
  • Limit: His defense is not automatic before his awakening; Kashimo’s opening attacks force him to activate it at maximum intensity 13.
  • Counter: Kashimo’s Domain Amplification neutralizes the defense on contact 13 14.
  • Kashimo notes that Arashi deactivated Limitless during their final exchange of attacks 19.

Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue

Blue produces a powerful attractive force capable of uprooting trees and drawing in soil and stones 14.

  • Maximum output: Greatly increases its suction and surrounding destruction 14.
  • Close-range attacks: Uses Blue during hand-to-hand exchanges to throw Kashimo into trees and a boulder 14.
  • Defensive redirection: Pulls Kashimo’s blade half an inch off course, creating an escape opening 18.
  • Enhanced punches: Lands a blow with a pulling effect that Kashimo identifies as likely coating his fist with Blue 18.
  • Limit: Kashimo initially evades its pull through rapid, unpredictable movement 14.

Reverse Cursed Technique

Arashi awakens self-healing while mortally wounded during his first exchange with Kashimo 17.

  • Repairs the damage to his chest and head sufficiently for him to return to battle 17.
  • Regenerates a severed arm and extensive damage to his torso 18.
  • Limit: Sustained attacks can inflict injuries faster than he can heal them 18.

Cursed Technique Reversal: Red

Red converts the attractive principle of Blue into repulsive force through Reverse Cursed Technique 17.

  • His first blast shakes Kashimo’s body and leaves his blocking arm numb 17.
  • A point-blank, finger-gun release hurls Kashimo through several trees and into a boulder 18.
  • Can be used even while Arashi is missing an arm and much of his torso 18.

Hollow Purple

Arashi combines Red and Blue into Hollow Purple for his final attack against Kashimo 18.

  • Describes its underlying knowledge as a secret known only to the Gojo family heads 18.
  • Releases it simultaneously with Kashimo’s Electromagnetic Cannon; the exchange ends in Arashi’s death 18 19.

Martial Training and Aerial Movement

  • Practiced swordsmanship with his father during childhood 19.
  • Uses punches, blocks, and close-range combinations alongside Blue 14 18.
  • After awakening, floats backward and upward to evade the Soul-Devouring Blade, then fights Kashimo in midair 17 18.

Relationships

  • Hajime Kashimo — Initially considered as a potential recruit. After Tengen warns of his likely alliance with Kenjaku, Arashi resolves to stop him. Their duel triggers Arashi’s awakening but ultimately ends his life 5 8 17 19.
  • Zenin Sawa — Political rival and fellow clan head. Their courteous exchanges conceal hostility, and Arashi considers war between them unavoidable 2 8.
  • Tengen — Strategic adviser who urges restraint toward the Zenin Clan and warns against recruiting Kashimo 8.
  • Kenjaku — A threat Arashi intends to oppose. Kenjaku also engineers an accusation that Arashi cursed Kamo Fuji and planned to annex Kamo lands 8 9.
  • Kamo Fuji — Arashi interrupts Sawa’s mockery of Fuji at the banquet. Fuji later accepts Kenjaku’s accusation against him 2 9.
  • Wife and child — His closest personal attachments; his final vision centers on their reunion 19.
  • Parents — Provided an affectionate childhood. His father’s death and mother’s illness precipitated his early succession as clan head 19.
  • New Shadow Style — Supports his political position, though Arashi regards that support as insufficient to counter the Zenin Clan’s influence 9.
  • Tokugawa Fenghua — Treats Arashi as a Shogunate guest and confronts Kashimo over his apparent killing 15.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Political Isolation and the Edo Festival

At the Kyoto banquet, Arashi faces growing scrutiny of the Gojo Clan and exchanges barbs with Zenin Sawa. Most sorcerer factions favor the Zenin Clan’s larger fighting forces over the Gojo Clan’s dependence on one powerful leader 2 4.

After Sawa announces the Zenin Clan’s seclusion, Arashi considers recruiting independent sorcerers. Tengen warns him away from Kashimo, but he still travels to Edo to seek allies at the festival. Meanwhile, Kenjaku manipulates Kamo Fuji into accusing Arashi of cursing him and plotting to seize his clan’s lands 5 8 9.

Duel with Kashimo

Arashi encounters Kashimo in a forest clearing near the festival. Limitless stops the initial attacks, but Kashimo improvises Domain Amplification to bypass it. Repeated contacts build an electrical charge inside Arashi, allowing Kashimo to explode his chest before striking his head with the Ruyi Staff 12 13 14.

Arashi survives by awakening Reverse Cursed Technique and returns with access to Red. The renewed battle escalates through aerial combat, Blue-enhanced strikes, and severe injuries on both sides. Arashi finally launches Hollow Purple against Kashimo’s Electromagnetic Cannon and dies in the exchange 17 18 19.

Death and Political Aftermath

The Gojo Clan retrieves Arashi’s body and prepares a funeral. News of his death reaches the Zenin leadership alongside reports that the Edo festival has been suspended 21.

Within a month, previously undecided factions shift their allegiance to Zenin Sawa. Three months after Arashi’s death, Sawa occupies the seat of honor, while the Gojo Clan’s standing has sharply weakened. Over the following decade, the Gojo, Kamo, and Zenin families all decline 31 44.
