His shop was like a vast money-sucking vortex, drawing an endless stream of traffic from the outside world into the Underground City. Like a god, he brought hope and a future to those who made their living there.

As for the "white" in his title, it indicated Qin Siyang's position: he represented the relatively "white" side.
Opposite him stood the "Black God," [Yu Gu], who had likewise contributed enormously to the Underground City's development and brought in tremendous traffic.
The Black-and-White Twin Gods had become the Underground City's most respected figures.
At first, some had called them the "Righteous-and-Evil Twin Gods," while others had called them the "Light-and-Shadow Twin Gods," but "Black-and-White Twin Gods" had ultimately stuck. Colors were simple and plain, free of emotional judgments about right and wrong.
After all, most people in the Underground City were like [Yu Gu]: wanted criminals who could not survive within the Safe Zone, or unfortunate souls hunted down and ostracized. If they called [Yu Gu] the Shadow God or the Evil God, wouldn't that mean they themselves belonged to the evil side, condemned to live in the shadows?
They did not enjoy living in hiding either. They, too, longed for the arrival of light, even if that day remained impossibly distant.
And so, distinguishing the two with the neutral terms "black and white" was these fugitives' last-and clumsiest-expression of their longing for light in the darkness.
