Lin Yaman rested her chin in her hand, staring blankly at the monitor before her.
Ever since Zhao Longfei had stepped down as president of Nanrong University and shouldered the heavy burden of becoming minister of the Awakening Department, she had transferred here with him.
Back at Nanrong, she had shared a crowded open-plan office with a group of administrative clerks. Now, she had an exceptionally spacious private office in this center of power.
But it brought her no happiness whatsoever.
The more intense the war became, the busier the man in the minister's office just one wall away grew. Zhao Longfei had countless meetings to attend and crises to handle, leaving the two of them pitifully little time together.
Lin Yaman sighed softly.
She knew she was not a formidable woman like Liu Yingfeng, who could fight enemies on the front lines and hold an entire district together single-handedly.
Deep down, she was just an ordinary woman.
Given the choice, she would rather return to Nanrong University.
She would have been content simply to take a leisurely walk through campus with Zhao Longfei after work each day.
