The airport.
"Sensei, why are we at the airport? Are we going abroad?"
"Yep! That special grade cursed spirit is in Lighthouse Country. The jujutsu sorcerers over there have lost loads of people and still can't deal with it, so they had no choice but to ask us, the strongest teacher-and-student duo, for help~"
"Huh, I'm the strongest now too?! Gojo, it's time for you to retire. I'm going to become the one and only strongest!"
"After Rikō High School, Edano officially became special grade! From now on, all my missions are yours! But if you want to beat your teacher, dream on!" Satoru Gojo pulled me into a fierce, loving headlock.
"Urgh, cough, cough! Gojo-sensei, are you trying to murder your own student... cough, cough, cough, cough!"
Ijichi, who had appeared beside us at some point, watched this "affectionate" teacher-and-student pair. After considerable hesitation, he finally interrupted. "Um... Mr. Gojo, Miss Taketori seems to be suffocating..."
"Yeah, yeah, Edano isn't that fragile~ Hm?!! Edano!!!" Satoru Gojo looked down at me as he spoke, only to discover that my face had gone white from suffocation. He quickly let go and patted my back to help me breathe, practically ready to perform CPR.
"Cough, cough, cough." It took quite a while before I gradually recovered. I looked up at him resentfully. "Gojo-sensei, even if I've got my eye on your position as the strongest, you don't have to eliminate me outright."
Then I turned to Ijichi with gratitude. "Boohoo, Mr. Ijichi, thank goodness you were here! Boohoohoo!"
Looking apologetic, Satoru Gojo gently patted my back. "Sorry. I went too hard."
"It's okay~ Let's get down to business first. Mr. Ijichi, why are you here?"
Boohoo, Miss Taketori really is the reliable one... Ijichi was crying on the inside.
"I'm here to hand over the arrangements. Once you get off the plane, an assistant supervisor from Lighthouse Country will meet you."
Ijichi bowed. "May fortune favor you in battle."
Satoru Gojo slung an arm around my shoulders. "Yeah, yeah, you're so long-winded, Ijichi. Are you an old man~? Let's go, let's go!"
Ijichi: ...
Gojo, want to take a guess why Ijichi looks so much more worn down than you despite being two years younger?
On the plane, business class.
"Gojo-sensei, what intel do we have on the cursed spirit?"
"Hmm..." Satoru Gojo took out his phone and fiddled with it, then handed it to me. "Read it yourself!"
I took the phone and looked... Special grade imaginary cursed spirit: Lilith.
I kept scrolling... Huh?! That was it???
My hands trembled. "...Just this one line?"
"Yep, that's all!"
I looked at him with mixed feelings, a hint of pity seemingly creeping into my eyes. "...Gojo-sensei."
"Huh? Why are you looking at your teacher like that?"
"It really is a miracle you've survived this long." I couldn't find the words. My expression looked as though I'd just drunk Jujutsu High's exclusive beef-tallow hotpot beverage.
It was hard to imagine the higher-ups weren't doing this deliberately. The only reason Satoru Gojo had survived this long was that he was the strongest! I've only got this one Gojo-sensei. Don't you get him killed!!!
Satoru Gojo suddenly patted my head solemnly. "Sigh."
I had a bad feeling and forced out a few words. "...What is it?"
"Barring any surprises, your mission intel will look like this from now on too, Edano~"
"..."
I knew it! Where are the higher-ups? I'm going to kill them!!!
While I was still screaming inwardly, a long, slender finger suddenly poked my cheek.
I followed it with my eyes and saw Gojo-sensei resting his chin on his hand, looking teasing. "Edano's puffed up like a pufferfish! It's okay. Your teacher is the strongest, and you're the strongest's student. We'll both be safe and sound!"
Looking at Satoru Gojo, who seemed to radiate a holy light, I smiled too. That's right. We'll both be safe and sound!
2000 years later...
Satoru Gojo had fallen asleep, his whole body sinking bonelessly into the soft business-class seat.
Seeing him sleep so utterly unguarded made my heart melt. As the strongest, he had all sorts of things, big and small, to deal with every day. He probably hadn't had a good night's sleep in ages.
I paid close attention to the cabin temperature. The air-conditioning was a little chilly. Though I figured Satoru Gojo, with his gorilla-like physique, wouldn't catch a chill, I still quietly called over the chief flight attendant.
"Hello, could you please bring me a blanket? A larger one, please. Thank you."
I took the blanket, tiptoed over to Satoru Gojo, and gently draped it over him.
Hmm, it's still a little small. That's fine. As long as his belly button is covered, he won't catch a chill!
Mission accomplished. After finishing all that, I returned to my seat and soon drifted off to sleep myself.
Just as the girl fell asleep, the man who had supposedly been sleeping soundly opened his eyes. Amused, he looked at the blanket over him and the girl sleeping like a little pig, then draped the blanket over her.
Curled into a ball, the girl looked like a little animal that felt unsafe. He felt that covering her with a blanket wasn't enough, so he gave in to his restless fingers and pinched the tip of her nose. Only when he sensed she was about to wake did he release her reddened nose.
At that, he rubbed his own nose guiltily, returned to his seat as though nothing had happened, and propped up his head to watch the sleeping girl.
By the time we got off the plane, it was nearly lunchtime the next day.
There were so many people. So, so many people. Even in such a huge airport, I felt a little short of breath-though that might also have been because I'd gotten airsick during the latter half of the flight?
Satoru Gojo took my hand and used his towering, over-six-foot frame to shield me from the crowds. At last, we reached a less crowded corner.
"Let's wait here for the assistant supervisor~ What a pain~" He swayed my arm like a cat wheedling for attention.
I freed one hand and patted his arm soothingly. Don't ask why I didn't pat his head. The answer was that I couldn't reach.
At last, the assistant supervisor arrived. "Mr. Gojo, Miss Taketori, sorry for the wait."
"You look familiar. You were in charge the last time I came here for work too, right?"
The assistant supervisor wiped away his sweat. "Uh, yes, Mr. Gojo." It's precisely because I handled it last time that I got stuck with it again when nobody else wanted to come!!!
"Please follow me!"
"This is the place."
After getting out of the car, I surveyed the neon-lit entertainment district. The signs and decor looked a little... dubious.
I tugged the hem of Satoru Gojo's clothes. "Um, Gojo-sensei, is this cursed spirit decent? I'm still a kid..." Just look at this street, this decor, this mood lighting, these outfits!
The assistant supervisor seemed embarrassed too. "Ahem. This is the place. 'Lilith' first appeared here. We sent in seven grade 1 sorcerers, and none of them returned. We haven't heard a word from them."
"Men have been disappearing from this street ever since 'Lilith' appeared. The regulars here vanished even faster, but fortunately, 'Lilith' only comes out late at night."
"At bedtime, huh... I really don't sense any cursed spirits."
Satoru Gojo waved at the assistant supervisor. "All right, come back later!"
"Um... at what time, exactly?"
"Hmm... no idea!!"
"Yes! No, wait, Mr. Gojo..."
Satoru Gojo scooped me up and tucked me under his arm. "Let's go, Edano! Your teacher will show you the local culture... Wait, obviously we're not sightseeing here!!!"
He forcibly turned my face away from that "dubious" street I kept peeking at.
Under the threat of Satoru Gojo's tyranny, I could only reluctantly withdraw my gaze.
[Xiao Ba, let's come back and investigate!]
Oh, Xiao Ba was asleep...
