Since Shinichi had offered him a way to back down, Nagato naturally wouldn't refuse. But the earlier battle had been too intense, and he had consumed far too much chakra. He couldn't help coughing violently.
Unless Shinichi was mistaken, he was actually coughing up blood.
Good grief. It seemed that battle really had aggravated Nagato's condition, cutting away another huge chunk of his remaining lifespan.
At this rate, Nagato might kick the bucket before their conversation was even over!
"Nagato, how are you feeling?"
Concern filled Konan's face, and she couldn't help asking.
She understood Nagato's condition better than anyone, so she naturally knew just how deadly the strain of that battle had been for him.
"Don't worry. With me here, he won't die."
At some point, Shinichi had walked over and taken hold of one of Nagato's hands.
After carefully examining him, Shinichi couldn't help frowning. Nagato's condition was apparently even worse than he had imagined.
It was hardly surprising. He had never seen a Planetary Devastation on that scale even in the original story, so Nagato must have put his life on the line back there.
"Can Nagato... still be saved?"
Konan bit her lip, her voice trembling.
She was terrified that Shinichi would say there was nothing he could do. If that happened, she truly wouldn't know what to do.
"He can."
Looking at the stunningly beautiful Konan, Shinichi's lips curled into a teasing smile. Amused, he said, "Konan, how about a bet? If I can restore the life force Nagato has lost and make him normal again, will you come back to Konoha with me for a date?"
The atmosphere instantly turned icy.
Nagato: "..."
Konan: "..."
"Hey, are you trying to take advantage of us?"
Nagato no longer cared
