Lu Mian pretended to sense Fa Zang's malice and warily retreated several steps.

With his mental discipline, Fa Zang subdued the malice the instant it arose, restoring the kindly expression on his face.

"Benefactor... I..."

Fa Zang looked at Lu Mian, seemingly wanting to explain.

But even he did not know why he had suddenly felt that malice.

It threw Fa Zang's Buddhist resolve into turmoil.

"Amitabha."

"Please forgive me, benefactor. I must take my leave."

Fa Zang pressed his palms together and darted away.

He suspected he had developed some sort of inner demon and needed to get to the bottom of it.

Lu Mian rubbed his chin.

Judging by this little test, Monk Fa Zang really did seem to bear him no ill will.

"Who'd have thought there were still bleeding hearts in a world like this?"

Recalling how Fa Zang had given him directions earlier, Lu Mian shook his head.

The world was complicated, and so were people. Every sort of person existed.

Knowing that Fa Zang meant him no harm was enough.

Lu Mian chose a road leading in the opposite direction from Fa Zang.

As he walked, he suddenly heard a tremendous crash, followed by violent tremors.

He leaped onto a rooftop. The Ghost Eye between his brows opened again, and the thick gray fog could no longer obscure his vision.

Looking toward the source of the tremors, Lu Mian saw a burly bald man tightly bound by Transparent Tree Tendrils, being dragged deeper into the city.

"Those root tendrils really are hunting every living thing in this city."

Lu Mian's eyes flickered, and he followed after all.

The bald man continued struggling desperately, but the Transparent Tree Tendrils were far too tough. No matter how fiercely he unleashed his Mystic Qi, it was useless.
