When Sikong Hongyue's voice drifted in from outside the courtyard gate, Shen Fei was standing in the middle of the courtyard, loosening his wrists.

Her voice was clear and bright, carrying a hint of early-morning cheer, as though she had deliberately chosen this hour to knock.

Shen Fei paused and looked toward the gate.

Xiao Ning'er stood a few paces behind him, having just secured the short sword at her waist. At the sound of the knock, she raised her head as well. Her expression shifted slightly, and her fingers unconsciously closed around the hilt.

The two exchanged a glance. According to the plan, Nie Li would not return today, and the mine explosions were scheduled for somewhat later. No one should have been knocking at the Guest Courtyard at this hour, least of all Sikong Hongyue.

Shen Fei gave Xiao Ning'er a meaningful look. His lips moved without a sound, mouthing, "Stick to the plan."

Xiao Ning'er understood. She released her sword hilt and stepped back twice into the shadow of a veranda pillar. Picking up several rolls of inscription drawings, she lowered her head as though studying something.

Shen Fei turned toward the courtyard gate and drew back the bolt.

Sikong Hongyue stood outside in a pale jade-green dress, a slender silver sash tied around her waist. Her long hair was pinned up with a white jade hairpin, giving her a softer appearance than yesterday's outfit had.

Her hands were empty, and she wore a smile. When Shen Fei opened the gate, she inclined her head slightly, her tone courteous yet familiar. "Good morning, Young Master Su."

"Good morning, Miss Sikong." Shen Fei returned a polite nod and stepped aside, gesturing for her to enter. "May I ask what brings you here?"

"Let's talk inside." Sikong Hongyue smiled
