Early life and the Academy

In Konoha Year 33, Liu Yun fears that his poor combat ability will leave him unable to survive the approaching Second Shinobi World War. His equipment system offers a route to greater strength, but its first identified material—Minato’s kunai—requires Minato’s blood. Unable to obtain it, he instead gains his first usable material after protecting Kushina from three boys mocking her red hair 1.

His late father left him a sword made entirely from precious chakra metal. His uncle, Gekko Naoto, holds it until Liu Yun graduates from the Academy and teaches him swordsmanship and the Great Fireball Technique.
