Shen Sui looked at the slender woman and asked:
"What's your name?"
The slender woman replied:
"Yue Sheng."
Shen Sui adjusted his glasses:
"Yue Sheng. I'll remember that."
"If [Choice] ends and you've proven yourself right, you can go to Uncle Zhao for three units of food."
Delight flashed in Yue Sheng's eyes, and she nodded:
"Thank you."
The last time she had taken part in [Choice], it had been because she had no food. Food mattered a great deal to her.
Lin Yu also watched Yue Sheng with interest.
Tsk.
Who would've thought?
There were hidden talents among the survivors, too. They'd actually found another one.
Yue Sheng...
The other twenty-odd survivors exchanged looks. In the end, they gritted their teeth and all made the same choice as Yue Sheng.
Option A!
Yue Sheng hadn't even needed to participate in [Choice], yet she had stepped forward to choose A. What reason did they have not to trust her?
They were gambling either way!
They might as well bet on Yue Sheng!
Among the survivors.
Su Man flashed a radiant smile and waved at Yue Sheng:
"You've got this, girl! I believe in you!"
Standing beside Lin Yu, Yellow Hair said with a cheerful grin:
"Holy shit, why can't I understand a single word these educated people are saying? Can you?"
Lin Yu wanted to ask whether this wasn't just basic physics.
Why couldn't he understand it?
But seeing the envy in Yellow Hair's eyes, he swallowed the words on the tip of his tongue and shook his head:
"Nope."
Yellow Hair asked again:
"Then do you think they'll make it out alive?"
"Yes."
Lin Yu smiled. "I don't understand it, but I think what she said makes a lot of sense."
Yellow Hair nodded:
"Yeah... so this is what they mean by 'no idea what it means, but it sounds impressive,' huh?"
In truth.
Lin Yu had also been considering whether he should choose A.
Two hundred liters of gasoline. Why pass up a freebie?
But in the end.
He gave up on the idea.
No one knew what might happen inside [Choice]. Even if the sun going out wouldn't cause any harm, there was no guarantee that the planet itself was safe.
So...
Unless he could be one hundred percent certain it was safe.
He couldn't possibly take that risk.
Taking risks was for gamblers.
And with Analysis, he didn't need to be a gambler.
Even with a ninety percent chance of winning, he had no need to take that kind of risk.
As the countdown ended.
Yue Sheng and the twenty-odd survivors vanished in an instant, entering [Choice].
Since the sun in this [Choice] world had been temporarily extinguished, the live feed was pitch-black, too. Nothing was visible.
Everyone could only wait for time to pass.
Ye Qing sat in the Red Supercar, idly toying with her manicured nails. She didn't seem particularly interested in the gasoline.
One minute later...
Suddenly!
A light flashed.
Yue Sheng and the other twenty survivors were all teleported back. Delight covered their faces, and a large barrel containing two hundred liters of gasoline had appeared beside each of them!
At that moment.
Every one of them was so excited they nearly cried.
A deep joy at having survived welled up in their hearts!
They had survived!
They hadn't died!
Yue Sheng had been right!
After they entered [Choice].
The sun overhead had instantly gone out. A strange force had silently absorbed all the light, immediately plunging the entire world into an eternal night. There was no sound, no light, only endless darkness...
That oppressive environment had filled them with a fear that bordered on despair!
No one could stay in a place like that for long.
Anyone who spent too long in an environment without light or sound would go mad!
Vaguely...
They had even seemed to hear strange whispers constantly rising from the darkness around them.
And they couldn't even be sure whether they were hearing things...
Fortunately, they only needed to hold on for one minute!
They had survived!
The twenty survivors looked at Yue Sheng with profound gratitude.
Thank goodness Yue Sheng had told them that option A was safe.
She had even come along to lead by example!
If they hadn't chosen A and had chosen B instead, they might already have died without even a body left to bury!
Many of those who had argued with Yue Sheng earlier now flushed red and began apologizing.
"I'm sorry. You were right. The sun going out for one minute really didn't have much effect."
"Thank you for saving us!"
"We owe you our lives."
Faced with their thanks, Yue Sheng merely shook her head, unbothered.
She hadn't done this for them, but for herself...
She had volunteered to participate in [Choice] to increase her participation count and put herself near the top of the survivors' rankings, so she could sit out future mandatory rounds.
And her willingness to use her expertise to explain things and save their lives.
Had also been a way to show what she could do and prove herself.
In an apocalypse survival team, being too mediocre, too ordinary, would only leave her lost in the crowd.
No one would care even if she died.
So.
She needed to prove her worth.
To make the Transcendents notice her.
And this had been an excellent opportunity!
As it turned out, she had succeeded.
Shen Sui had remembered her name.
Looking at the barrels of gasoline, Shen Sui said calmly, "According to team rules, one-third of all supplies must be handed over. If you aren't interested in gasoline, you can also trade it with Uncle Zhao for other supplies."
Twenty-one barrels of gasoline.
That amounted to 4,200 liters!
The team wouldn't be short on gasoline anytime soon!
Of course...
Not every vehicle qualified to use such an important strategic resource.
Once ordinary survivors' vehicles ran out of fuel, they could only become useless lumps of metal, abandoned in the wilderness.
Looking at the twenty-one barrels of gasoline, Lin Yu couldn't help the corners of his mouth lifting.
Tsk...
How nice!
He actually had a share in the gasoline these survivors handed over!
According to team rules, survivors returning from [Choice] had to hand over one-third of their supplies.
That third was then divided into two shares. Shen Sui received one as the leader, while the other Transcendents split the remaining share.
Shen Sui seemed a little greedy.
He took half all by himself.
But he was the leader, and a Sequence 8 at that.
As the team's undisputed core and leader, he had that right.
After all those successive divisions, Lin Yu would only receive about 140 liters of gasoline.
It wasn't much, but he hadn't contributed anything. He was effectively reaping the rewards for free.
It felt a little like collecting rent...
Naturally, he had no complaints!
After all...
Before becoming a Transcendent, he had actually been the one getting exploited.
And having plenty of gasoline in the team's reserves was a great thing for him in itself.
If his gasoline ran out later, he could trade with Shen Sui for more.
As long as the team had fuel, everything would be easy to work out!
Shen Sui and Uncle Zhao busily began collecting the gasoline, moving barrel after barrel onto Shen Sui's Armored Pickup. The sight left Lin Yu burning with desire.
Damn...
I really want to steal Shen Sui's Armored Pickup...
Too bad...
I can't beat him.
Soon.
Lin Yu received his own 140 liters of gasoline. He casually placed it in the pickup's bed. His Armored Pickup's tank was still almost full, so he didn't need to refuel yet.
Just then.
Yellow Hair came over carrying his own 140-liter share of gasoline. He casually handed it to Lin Yu and said with his usual flippant air:
"Here, take this gasoline. Now I don't owe you anything."
Lin Yu froze.
Since when did Yellow Hair owe me anything?
Seeing Lin Yu's puzzled expression, Yellow Hair grinned, amused:
"Forgot about that cream bun?"
"Your bro Yellow Hair doesn't take advantage of people."
"Fuck it, I'm off!"
With that.
Yellow Hair casually set down the gasoline, turned, and left.
