Lin Hui took it and examined it. It was an electronic device resembling a phone, with a screen about fifteen inches across and two small buttons, one red and one green.
"What is this?" Lin Hui asked.
"This is the Feral Wolf Guild's Internal Communicator! I've cracked their communication frequency and device password!"
Su Qingqian's face brimmed with excitement. With her [Machinery] Specialization, cracking such a simply encrypted channel was a piece of cake.
She handed the communicator to Lin Hui while projecting the decrypted interface onto the RV's central control screen.
The screen displayed something resembling a radar interface, complete with distance markers. A dozen or so red dots blinked on it, the nearest only about fifty kilometers away.
"Each red dot represents a Feral Wolf Guild convoy," Su Qingqian explained.
With that, she pressed the communicator's red button. After a few bursts of static, several voices came through.
They were not particularly clear, but the words were intelligible.
[Voice A: Seven, are you still not done? They're just a small convoy!]
[Voice B: Boss Yu said we have to get that Lv5 upgrade blueprint this time!!]
[Voice A: Useless Seven, don't tell me those weaklings turned the tables and killed you?]
[Voice C: Heh heh... I just robbed a survivor convoy. Those idiots tried to fight back, so I burned them all to death. Plenty of supplies, plus two bottles of good liquor. We'll share when I get back!]
[Voice D: I just ran into an isolated convoy from the "Rose Society." I'm going to try my luck. If it works out, I'm in for a treat tonight...]
[...]
Static crackled...
[Voice B: Seven, respond if you hear me!]
[Voice B: Something's wrong. Seven's location marker hasn't moved for over ten minutes. I contacted him through the "doomsday survival game" system, but he didn't reply either! Something probably happened. Three, you're closest to Seven. Go take a look!]
[Voice C: I'm on my way!]
[Voice B: Be careful!! Leave a message on the communicator the moment you find anything!!]
[Voice C: Got it!]
The recorded messages ended.
Lin Hui looked up at the central control screen. The red dot nearest him, originally fifty kilometers away, was now only forty-odd kilometers away.
And it kept drawing closer!
"They're coming for us."
Liu Xi walked over and looked at the screen, her brow furrowing slightly.
"At their speed, they should get here in twenty minutes!"
She looked at Lin Hui. "Should we avoid them?"
"Or ambush them here?"
Lin Hui rubbed his chin. Rather than answering Liu Xi's questions, he turned to Su Qingqian. "Can you block this communicator's location signal?"
Liu Xi immediately realized what Lin Hui intended and turned to Su Qingqian as well.
Su Qingqian thought for a moment, then said:
"There should be a tracker or a location program inside this communicator. Removing it should do the trick."
Lin Hui nodded. "Try it right away. The faster, the better! Ideally, get it done within fifteen minutes!"
"Okay!" Su Qingqian immediately brought out her repair kit, took out her tools, and carefully disassembled the communicator.
When her [Machinery] Specialization had awakened, a vast amount of machinery-related knowledge had appeared in her mind.
It had instantly transformed her from a complete novice into a master mechanic, proficient in machinery across every field.
Su Qingqian's movements were swift and precise. Although she had never encountered its internal components before, a single glance told her their functions and operating principles.
Watching Su Qingqian work with almost artistic finesse, Lin Hui was struck by how remarkable Specializations were.
And Su Qingqian was only at tier 1. Once her tier increased, she would surely bring him even more surprises.
In less than fifteen minutes, Su Qingqian had reassembled the communicator. "It had both a physical tracker and software-based tracking. I've removed them both."
"Now, to other players with communicators, this communicator will appear to have been destroyed."
"Good work!" Lin Hui said excitedly. "Forget this Feral Wolf Guild convoy for now. Let's leave immediately!"
With Lin Hui's strength, wiping out that squad in an ambush would have been no problem.
But he wanted something more sustainable. The Feral Wolf Guild's players were so rich that not using them to replenish his stores would be a waste.
As long as he knew the whereabouts of the Feral Wolf Guild's convoys, they were livestock he could farm!
Whenever he got hungry, he could go take a bite!
Five minutes after Lin Hui's RV left, a convoy of more than a dozen vehicles came charging in!
A man of about thirty stepped out of the Lv4 vehicle leading the convoy. He had a buzz cut and a goatee, and his cold gaze slowly swept the surroundings.
The ground was scorched, all the vehicles were gone, and the bodies of Feral Wolf Guild members lay scattered everywhere.
When the man with the goatee spotted the leather-jacketed man's mangled corpse, his gaze turned icy. "Useless trash! You couldn't even handle something this simple!!"
He first picked up his communicator and checked it, discovering that the red dot belonging to the leather-jacketed man had vanished.
Then the man with the goatee pressed the green button and left a message:
"Two, Seven's dead. They probably took the goods."
Soon, after a burst of static, a deep voice sounded. "Just as I thought! That little convoy was definitely no match for Seven. He must have run into other players. Anyone capable of killing Seven can't be ordinary. They might belong to another major guild."
"I'll pursue them now and see if I can find the killers," the man with the goatee replied.
The voice continued, "Don't pursue too far. Report immediately if anything happens. Anyone who takes something from the Feral Wolf Guild will have to cough it back up, even the Sky Tyrant Alliance."
"Everyone else, keep an eye out for any suspicious convoys too!"
"Got it!"
"Got it!"
Several more voices chimed in.
"Three, if you haven't found the targets in three hours, pull back. The hall master wants us to reach the outskirts of Cauldron City as soon as possible. The guild has a big plan. Don't hold things up!"
"Understood!" The man with the goatee put away his communicator, checked the direction, and ordered the convoy to pursue.
Meanwhile.
A massive black RV sped down a highway stretching as far as the eye could see.
Inside the RV, Lin Hui had just finished listening to the conversation between the man with the goatee and another Feral Wolf Guild member.
"A big plan?" He mulled over the words, wondering what the Feral Wolf Guild was preparing to do.
"Boss, that convoy seems to be chasing in the wrong direction. They're getting farther and farther away from us. Should we chase them?" Su Qingqian suddenly asked from the passenger seat, her eyes fixed on the central control screen.
Lin Hui turned his head slightly and looked at Su Qingqian with mild surprise. "You've gotten a lot braver, huh? Actually suggesting we chase down the enemy..."
A faint blush instantly colored Su Qingqian's cheeks. She lowered her head and said a little more quietly, "Um... I only dared to think that because you're here, boss..."
Seeing her reaction, Lin Hui could not help smiling.
"We're definitely going to chase them, but we won't charge straight into a fight. We can change tactics."
"What tactics?" Su Qingqian blinked her beautiful eyes.
