After agreeing to Clark Kent's repeated insistence on secrecy, Li Jie stood up to leave. It was still working hours, after all. He couldn't expect someone to keep him company for a chat on the clock.
He walked out of the Daily Planet building and strolled down the street with his hands in his pockets. Watching the bustling crowds and their relaxed smiles, he felt wonderfully at ease.
It was nothing like walking the streets of Gotham, with that chill down his back and the sense that a bullet could come flying out of nowhere at any moment.
"Almost lunchtime again..."
As noon approached, Li Jie decided that, as a police officer with a respectable amount of money to his name, eating cold pizza like last time would disgrace Gotham's police force. He bit the bullet and spent ten dollars on two footlong Subway sandwiches, then sat down on a bench beside a bright red public phone booth.
"Not bad. Nom... nom... huh?"
After a couple of bites, Li Jie suddenly remembered what Clark had said earlier.
"...An accident at S.T.A.R. Labs... does that mean The Flash is about to show up?"
He only remembered The Flash's name. The man seemed pretty dependable, but wasn't he sometimes a little stubborn?
Hmm...
Li Jie pondered for a moment, then took out his phone and dialed a number.
"Hey, boss?"
"What happened? You've only been gone a day, haven't you?" Bob sounded lazy over the phone, but a second later, he suddenly perked up. "Is someone else looking to donate money?"
"Uh... no..." Li Jie was a little speechless. "I wanted to ask you a favor."
"Oh, go ahead, then." Bob's voice grew languid again. "Did you get yourself into trouble?"
"No. I wanted to ask, isn't the speed limit for vehicles
