[Altered Harleen Quinzel's fate to a minor degree. Gained 1 skill point.]
At first, he couldn't figure out what exactly had changed. Then Gordon called that morning, relaying Professor Hugo Strange's request to borrow Officer Harleen Quinzel for a stint at Arkham Asylum to help analyze a patient's mental state.
"Seriously, Jay, I still can't believe it. A teaching assistant at Gotham University quit her job to become a rookie cop at your place?"
Gordon's voice was full of disbelief. "What exactly did you promise her?"
"Uh... maybe permission to kick people in the crotch whenever she wants..." Li Jie replied offhandedly. "Forget the little details. Why did he ask you to pass the message along?"
"He contacted Gotham University first. They told him Dr. Quizzle had left to join the Gotham Police Department. Then he called Central Headquarters and asked me to help arrange the temporary assignment."
"Fuck that. Not a chance," Li Jie said, thoroughly annoyed. "Jim, honestly, what do you think of this... weirdo professor?"
"What do I think? Hmm... honestly, I'm not particularly fond of him either," Gordon said thoughtfully. "He always seems to look down on people. Have you had trouble with him?"
"You could say that."
Li Jie grunted a couple of times. He knew Gordon wouldn't understand if he started explaining things like psychological manipulation and psychological traps. After all, he couldn't explain them clearly himself.
"Did he tell you what kind of patient it was?"
"A lunatic we caught a couple of days ago. Dresses himself up like the joker on a playing card." Gordon sighed. "The guy can even make poison gas. He's the one from that police bulletin a few days ago, the one who makes people laugh themselves to death."
"Fuck!"
Li Jie felt ice slide down
