The next morning at the East End Police Department, Li Jie pointed to the two Interview Rooms behind him, each fitted with one-way glass. Dick and Barbara were being held separately inside. Each room had a single bed, with drinks, snacks, pastries, and hamburgers on the table. Someone had even thoughtfully turned on the air conditioning for them.

Fortunately, Bushnell had led the team the night before. He had, of course, heard the legends about Batman. Though somewhat puzzled by the fact that "Batman was a very young-looking woman," he had immediately recognized that this was beyond his ability to handle. He personally escorted the two back to the station, quietly locked them in the Interview Rooms, then called Li Jie.

He practically ground those words to pieces between his teeth, then looked up to glare at Bruce Wayne beside him. Bruce looked at Gordon, then at Li Jie, his face full of embarrassment and helplessness.

"Jim... I..." He opened his mouth, unsure what to say. "Um... the kids are growing up... hey! Hey, that's not what I meant. What I'm saying is..."

He covered his forehead and peeked at Li Jie through his fingers, signaling for him to hurry up and rescue him. Li Jie held one hand beside his chin and discreetly rubbed his fingers together. Bruce Wayne understood at once and quietly raised an index finger from the hand covering his face.
