Danees sat before the floor-to-ceiling window, turning an unlit cigar in his hand.
The skyline of Metropolis glittered in the afternoon sunlight outside. Though the earthquake had caused considerable damage here too, the city was rapidly returning to normal thanks to Superman and Lex Luthor's rescue efforts.
Of course, throughout the process, the two had been trading... actually, Lex Luthor had been hurling all sorts of negative comments at Superman, while the latter barely responded.
"Boss," Kraft, the team manager, said as he pushed open the door and walked in. "Whelan says he'd like to talk to you."
"I thought he'd act a little faster."
Danees tossed the cigar back onto the desk. "Bring him over in fifteen minutes."
"Uh..."
Kraft stood there, looking hesitant. He had worked for Danees for over a decade and knew his boss hated hemming and hawing more than anything.
"Spit it out."
"Are we really going to let Whelan get involved in this?" Kraft asked carefully. "The federal ban doesn't target the team directly, but our legal department has assessed it. If the Suns or any of our players publicly raise funds for Gotham, it could be considered support for defying the federal blockade. That could affect our relationship with the government, and might even... embroil us in some serious disputes."
"Heh."
Danees looked at him and chuckled softly. "The blockade? Ha!"
He laughed several times, shaking his head slightly.
"Kraft," he said, rising and walking to the window, "abandoning your own city after a major disaster-I don't know what kind of idiotic story would feature a plot like that, but it actually happened."
He looked at his subordinate. "Do you know what that means?"
"In theory..." Kraft gave a helpless little smile himself. "The government has already violated the Constitution."
"Yes. Not only
