The golden storms churning across the sun's surface were billions of times more magnificent than any hurricane on Earth. Kara floated above that boiling sea of light, her cape stretched by the ionic winds into a tattered battle flag.

Before the absolute majesty of a star, her Kryptonian senses lost their usual swagger. She should have felt scorching heat, but the sun was her source, a second womb for an orphan of Krypton. Warmth seeped through every inch of her skin, flowing through the lattice of her Kryptonian cells and peeling away, layer by layer, the fatigue accumulated in Earth's atmosphere. She could even hear the sun's pulse, its low-frequency rumble penetrating the vacuum of space and stirring an ancient resonance within her chest.

She estimated the distance, then deliberately stretched her arms to loosen up her chest.

Then she drew her body back, adopting a pose much like a javelin thrower's.
