"Faster... faster..."

Gordon muttered almost unconsciously, his gaze piercing the windshield as though he could see past the city's skyline to the police headquarters burning and bleeding beyond.

He practically drove the accelerator through the floor. Beside him, Li Jie clutched his stomach and grimaced. Every jolt sent a sharp stab of pain through the wound in his side, but he only clenched his teeth, refusing to put any more strain on Gordon's nerves.

The convoy entered Old Town and turned onto the main road leading to the Gotham Police Department. Several intersections away, they could see a faint flicker of flames against the sky. By the time the police van reached the parking lot entrance, however, the flames had begun to fade.

Several officers, their faces ashen, were fumbling with a fire hose, spraying water into the windows still smoking on one side of the building. The walls bore obvious scorch marks and cracks from an explosion, and shards of glass lay scattered like diamonds. The evidence storage facility beside the main building, on the other hand, looked much more intact. Apart from its wide-open doors, it appeared to have suffered no damage.

Two uniformed officers lay in pools of blood at the entrance. An ambulance had already arrived, and paramedics were working on them, but their efforts clearly seemed to be doing little good.

"What happened?! Can someone tell me what the fuck happened here!"

He grabbed a sheriff who was trying to hurry past. "Dominic, how long ago did they leave, and where did they go?"

"I don't know..."

The sheriff's face was covered in soot, and his tongue trembled so badly he could barely get the words out. "You know... the evidence storage facility has always... been managed by William and Matthew and their men. But
