Beneath a sky thick with dark clouds, a brilliant light flashed across the land as the Time Machine carrying Trunks returned to his world.
Yet the moment the Time Machine landed, Trunks noticed something strange.
Before him, the place that had once been West City had become a field of ruins.
Cold wind swept through the shattered walls, moaning softly, while burning buildings crackled everywhere.
"What happened? Mom? Oh no!"
Trunks was shaken to his core. He could not understand how his world had changed so drastically in such a short time.
As he flew toward Capsule Corporation, Trunks saw corpses strewn across the ground. The devastation only deepened his dread.
Then, when Trunks reached Capsule Corporation, he found that the company building had collapsed.
The pitted ground looked as though countless shells had bombarded it, leaving its surface uneven.
"Damn it! What the hell happened?!"
Just as Trunks cried out in despair... a sudden voice brought him back to his senses.
"Trunks? You're back?"
"Mom?"
Trunks looked down and discovered his mother, Bulma, climbing out from beneath the rubble.
There was an emergency shelter hidden underneath it.
Seeing that his mother was safe, Trunks felt his eyes well up. He rushed down and hugged her.
"It's all right, Trunks. I'm fine. Let's go down first. We'll be in trouble if the Androids find us."

Following the disheveled, exhausted Bulma into the basement, Trunks asked in bewilderment, "Mom, what happened? I wasn't gone that long. How did West City end up like this?"
"It was the Androids. Not long after you left, Dr. Gero's Android army attacked!" Bulma said. "All the guards your father left behind died protecting me. I escaped here before the Androids attacked. That's the only reason I survived..."
